Pills & pain... (Zoloft/Metformin)... any ideas?

So my band is at an AWESOME restriction point right now. LOVE where I am at for food restriction. However now I find it VERY hard to take any type of pill. I stopped taking my metformin because they are just too big... and now my Zoloft really gives me horrid horrid heartburn right after I take it.

I have tried eating cheese right after, or peanut butter, hoping in vain it would calm the heart burn while the pills pass. No such luck. Anyone else having issues?

I really don't want to loosen my restriction level... but I can't not take my Zoloft. Crushing them is just not an option. I cannot take crushed pills. I gag horribly. I have tried.

When I asked my surgeon during my last visit he said none of his patients have problems swallowing pills... even metformin. So maybe what I feel is optimal restriction is tighter than others? Not sure.

I am not PB'ing, sliming, etc. I really feel like I am in the green zone right now. Except for the dang pills.

Kinda frustrated.

Riomet is liquid Metformin, and I took it after I had my surgery until I was brave enough to try my 850 mg pills.  Ask your doctor for this instead of the pills.

In regards to the Zoloft, I don't know if that comes in a liquid, or if it can be crushed - but I'd ask the pharmacist...

My doc gave me a scrip for Riomet but I couldn't get it filled anywhere....manufacture of the product was halted for some reason. If anyone out there is currently getting it, I sure would like to know.  As for me, I cut my Metformin pills in half. Crushing them made me gag.

I don't know what kind of pain Zoloft is for, but I take Tramadol/Ultram  300 mg a day for chronic  pain in my legs.   The 300mg pill is kinda large for me so I take a 200mg and a 100mg pill now and they both go down fine.  (size comparable to an aspirin and a baby aspirin).  WHen I have break-through pain, I take a hyrocodone pill (10-325), also cut in half.

Hi Jolena,
I had my lap band in 12-2010 and since the surgery i"ve been having leg pain, never had it before. So i would like to ask you about your chronic leg pain (if you dont mind).  Well my pain started on the outer side of both legs(hips) its a dull, burning pain.???? I'm still suffering with it. Oh and I'm also diabetic (but not on any medication). I've been asking about it on this site to see if anyone experienced this also..

thanks

A

I had a script for Riomet but couldn't get it filled. They aren't making it anymore for some reason. I just got a script for Byetta, which is a shot that I can take twice daily. So I am going to try that to avoid the Metformin.

I switched to the smallest size for Zoloft and that helped until this last fill. I take three 50mg pills. I asked about liquid once but was told it would be wicked expensive for my dose... might have to push the issue.

I would also consider trying a new med as far as the Zoloft goes. I have been on psych meds before and I know what a pain new drug trials can be but it may be better than loosing restiction. After my surgery I went back on my Effexor for a few months and was able to get capsules with little beads inside that I could easily mix in applesauce with little to no flavor.

I take Cymbalta and they are small capsules that seem to go down.  However, I am wondering if my pills are causing some of the problems I started having once I had a fill. Everything fills stuck.

Check with the pharmacist to see if there are certain prescription strengths for Zoloft that are not so large.  Maybe you can just take a combination of different milligrams to equal your current dosage.  You might be able to look for this information on line too.  Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion. I did get the smallest ones RX'd and that helped until this last fill. Think I will have to ask again about liquid form.
