Always sounds funny to us Brits! In Ireland the meat you eat for S. P Day is a bacon joint! Corned beef to us is a very soft, re-formed meat, nothing at all like the American version. Ours comes either in a tin or ready sliced from the supermarket and is so soft you can cut it with a teaspoon!
I was told that the first Irish to go to the US couldn't get the bacon joints they wanted (no idea why!) and so used cuts of beef instead.

Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
I made Corn Beef and Cabb for my grandmother in her slow cooker - she said it was good.
I could never acquire the taste for Corned Beef or Cabbage and now I cannot eat potatos - so needless to say we aren't doing anything irish today.
But i did wear green to the gym!
