Has anyone had a Hysterectomy after lap band?  I had my lap band in 1/09, have lost 100 pounds and am now scheduled for a hysterectomy on 4/18/11...  Any advice or info would be appreciated..  Also were you able to have lap vaginal or abdominal?  Thank you in advance for any input!  : )

I had my hysterectomy in 2002, long before lapband.  It was vaginal (he left my ovaries) and recovery was amazingly easy.  My doctor told me for 15 years that I needed it (very large fibroids) and I was sorry I waited so long!

6-7-13 band removed. No revision. Facebook  Failed Lapbands and Realize Bands group and WLS-Support for Regain and Revision Group

No experience but I can't help but think that everything will be easier at 100lbs lighter! Best wishes!

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

I had my  lapband Feb 06 and my hysterectomy Feb 08.  He went through the same cut as my c-section.  I had a full...if I was to do anything different, I would not have some of my saline taken out but I was parnoid that I would wake up in the recovery choking.

I just had a hysterectomy last Thursday March 10th. my lapband was in July 2007 and have lost over 150 lbs.. My surgery was lap vaginal it was a breeze, no problems at all it was thursday afternoon and i came home friday afternoon. I took the pain medicine one day after i came home and tylenol for one day, stopped taking it i did not have any pain. I was told to make sure i take  something so i dont  have problems with bowel movements. I did have to have 2 cc's removed from my band and told i can have it put back in as soon as i am released from my ob. I did have a complete hysterectomy so they put me on a estergine patch to wear. I was told just like with lap band to walk it helps with gas pains. Just follow your doctors orders and you will do fine. I already feel better than i have in a long time, i was a real bad anemic. My doctor told me to get Phazyme to take for gas it is a small gel cap, i got them at Walgreens next to the gas x.  and they work great. I also started taking Murlax as soon as i came home to help with going to the bathroom. The doctor told me that constapation is a problem you do not want to have. My prep before surgery was to bath with some stuff they gave me to wash my stomach with, a fleet enama, and an idione douch. I have two small incisions about 3/4 inch long low on my stomach no stitches  just like i had with lapband (the glue stuff and tape), real low on my stomach and then a small incision in my belly button. I was told to go back to the doctor in 2 weeks, no driving for 3 weeks, not to lift anything over 10 lbs. no bending or stooping. I have been joking with my husband telling him i am on vacation. Just like lap band you might want to have a pillow for the ride home and you will need something for chapped lips in the hospital. I was told to clean  the house, go to the store do what i needed before hand and have the stuff i needed on hand, because it would be a while before i would be doing things.  I wish you all the best with your surgery and your recovery you will do great just take care of yourself and don't over do it.

I had my hyst before banding, so I can't really advise on the combo of band & hyst.

I can tell you I had the robotic DaVinci Hysterectomy and the recovery was extremely easy. If you are a candidate for the DaVinci, I highly recommend it.

WOW!!! I was wondering the same thing. I am having a hysterectomy on March 23rd and I was banded in Aug 09. I called my lap band doctor to ask if there was anything that I needed to do before my surgery. Unfortunately, they will not be doing the surgery laproscopic. It will abdominal. I am expecting a longer recovery time. Anywhoo, my doctor said that there was nothing that I needed to do on their end. I thought maybe that I might need to go in for an unfill until after the surgery, but they said no. Will, try and keep you updated. How are you having your surgery done? Lap, vaginal, or abdominal?

I would say dont do a saline adjustment, that is my regret due to fear of the unknown, I had some of my saline taken out when I was at the prefect restriction.

If it were me (and really I don't mean to second guess you)  I'd really get a second opinion on having an abd. hyst.  They can even do lap hyst for many cancers now..   I know.  I was one.

Best of luck to you.

I had a Supracervical, (uterus only) hysterectomy 2 years post op after losing 100+ lbs.  I chose to have a slight unfill because I was worried about nausea, but I was given anti-nausea meds so if I were to do it over again I wouldn't have had the unfill. (I gained weight during recovery because I could eat too much).

Mine was Laproscopic and as far as healing went it was a breeze.  I was expecting a similar recovery to my band surgery and was really surprised when the hysterectomy recovery was much easier.  I didn't have the same difficulty sitting up from a lying down position.  It didn't register until a friend pointed out, "Well, yeah, didn't it occur to you that sitting up might be easier this time because you weigh 100 lbs less than you did?"  Duh!  Just another NSV for WLS!

I hope your surgery and recovery is as easy as mine was!

Best~
