Impatient with my appearance... anyone else?

I've gone through stuff like that. I wanted bright blue streaks in my blonde hair, ended up getting almost-black streaks. Got a punk haircut. Thought about having eyeliner tattoed on my eyes (still scared of that). Thought about a tattoo until a friend told me how much hers hurt. Thought about getting the upper part of one ear pierced until a friend told me she can't sleep lying on the same side as her upper ear piercing, even after 4 years.

I feel like I kept myself hidden in dark, plain clothes, plain hairstyles, plain & anonymous everything for so many years (trying to hide) that I'm entitled to some experimentation now. I'm attracted to a JC Penney juniors' clothing brand called Decree - kind of an "edgy" look - and I've bought quite a few garments from that line, but when I try on a new one I ask myself over and over, "Does this look silly on me?" Cripes, I'm 57 years old, why can't I act my age? Then again, why should I?

So, have fun with the new you and keep us posted (with photos). If you do anything too weird or self-destructive, we'll let you know.

To me it seems clear that you are experiencing a new found sense of confidence.  Instead fo hiding you're o.k. with drawing attention to yourself.  Losing almost 50 lbs will do that to you!  All of a sudden you start believing, "Hey, I can do this", and you're desire to not hide behind the weight anymore is manifesting itself in the release of things you've perhaps wanted to do but didn't have the courage to do before.

The best news?  It gets even better as the numbers on the scale keep going down.  I went zip-lining when I lost 100 lbs.  It's something I always wanted to do but knew I couldn't at 330 lbs. (above the weight limit and didn't have the strength to tuck my legs for the landing).  It was wonderful and soooo freeing!

Do what makes you feel good about yourself.  You deserve it!

Go for it!  I'll be 52 next month and I don't know when but I'm getting a tattoo.  Every time I go on vacation I threaten to do it and I know I will.  I want a honeysuckle and a bird on my leg or something smaller somewhere else. Maybe when I vaca in the states next month I will get one!

Thanks everyone!  You guys are making me feel SO much better!  Losing weight quickly (even though it's slowed WAY down lately... still not going to sneeze at lamost 50 pounds in a few short months) has been so liberating and encouraging, I'm feeling better than I ever have, almost effervescent and I guess I just want the outside to match the inside.

I am getting a tattoo when I hit the 100 pound mark.  I've had it designed since a few weeks before my surgery.  It's a combination of a Phoenix and a lotus flower; two things that signify change nd new beginnings and I'm going to get it on the inside of my left wrist... SO excited about that one!!

And I would confess to shopping being a new vice but...that would be a lie.  It's ALWAYS been a vice.  I've always been all about bright colors and loud clothes and sky high heels, regardless of my size.

Well, let's see I had my eyeliner tattooed and have gone blond.  However,  I have always been confident and happy with my looks, fat or thin.  As far as getting your nose pierced, well, that kind of grosses me out cause I always wonder what  happens if you have to blow your nose?

This post has made me smile.  Thank you for that, it's something I needed, badly :)

I guess we've all had ourselves "buried" under our excess weight for so long, we feel like our 'real" selves are emerging, and we want to celebrate it.

You celebrate any way you want to. :)  Pink/purple streaks are hot.  Nose piercing can be hot.  It's your success... celebrate it!! :)
