Considering the band???
Oh I don't wish them ill! I wish the band work out for everyone. Unfortunately that's not the case. I know statistically it's not going to work out well long term. So for any that are haiving luck with their band "so far" I am thrilled for them. It wasn't ment as a negative statement. Renee seems like a very sweet lady, and I wish her the best with her band!

But you ARE implying it's not going to last. Not something appropriate to say to someone post op.

Okay, I'm a newbie, but y'all will find out pretty quickly that I tell it like it is and this needs to be said:
Maria,
I get it that you think lap band surgery isn't the best choice, but there are those of us who would rather take those risks than to permanently and irreversibly rearrange our insides for the sleeve, RNY, etc. It's just like religion; X may be the perfect belief system for you, but it's not going to be a good fit for everyone. If you try to convince the non-believers to convert to your way of thinking, you're going to make more enemies than friends.
I have 2 friends who have had gastric bypass and 3 who have had the lapband. I've spoken to all of them extensively, I've read books, websites, studies from different countries, I've been following the discussions in forums on different weight loss surgery sites to get a well-rounded view of all the pros and all the cons. I'm well aware that sometimes bands blow, sometimes ports flip, sometimes the band erodes into the stomach, sometimes bands slip, sometimes people don't get that being banded is primarily about behavior modification and it doesn't work out for them, sometimes other things go wrong.
Despite being aware of all of these things, I have made the decision that those are all risks I'm willing to take for the chance at losing the 200lbs that will bring me down to a healthy weight where I can start living my life again. If I experience any one or any combination of those things, yet I come out the other end at a healthy weight where I can actually be an active participant in my 5 yr old son's life, then count me in. Count me in a thousand times because I'd rather go through 50 corrective surgeries for a chance at that than to back out because I succumbed to the fear-mongering from one of your posts, only to try and fail at a million other things (I'll never do RNY or the sleeve****il my son has moved out of the house to start his life with the memory of me being a chair-bound spectator for as long as he could remember.
Arriving at this point in my life has been difficult and trying enough without coming in here to talk to other people who're going through the same things and to hear from people who've gone through it and are willing to share their experiences, only to find your constant reminders that the lap band doesn't work for everyone. I've only been coming in here for the past week or so and you've already made a clear impression as being vocally active in trying to make sure we all know what a poor decision the lap band is.
We know, we get it, thank you for your concern. Now, can you please leave those discussions in the forums they're intended for (hence, the revision thread you linked to) and leave this forum to the nervous newbies like myself and wisened veterans who're happy with how being banded has worked for them? I think we'd all be a lot happier and would feel less animosity towards you if we didn't constantly feel put on the defensive for making the decisions we have.

~there are those of us who would rather take those risks than to permanently and irreversibly rearrange our insides for the sleeve, RNY, etc.~
There will be permanent and irreversible damage from the band. The stomach will never be the same again. The band is removable...........NOT reversible.
~fear-mongering~
Oh please! lol
~leave those discussions in the forums they're intended for~
Excuse me! This is the band forum...........Those were BAND issues! Therefore...........correct forum! Btw..............No one is forcing you to read my post you know!
~leave this forum to the nervous newbies like myself and wisened veterans who're happy with how being banded has worked for them?~
Oh I get it! The band forum is ONLY for happy bandsters! So to hell with the ones that have bands that don't work?! Some support that is!!!!!!!!!!!
~I think we'd all be a lot happier and would feel less animosity towards you if we didn't constantly feel put on the defensive for making the decisions we have.~
So if you have researched and feel happy about your decision why would you feel on the defensive??? U want the band...........get the band. However there are others that didn't know some of this info and appriciate hearing it! So now your the band police and want to censer the public band forum?! Nice going!

Why would you dare call it fear mongering what I have said and tell me I can't post it on the band forum that I have to post on the revision forum........but yet you go on the VSG forum and tell them to tell you the VSG horror stories???
~ (I'll never do RNY or the sleeve)~
Then then why if the band is so wonderful and you will "never do RNY or sleeve" are you on the VSG forum researching it?!
