I had my first fill yesterday 3cc's of fluid in my 14cc AP large band. Today I am starving! I was told to stay on liquids til thursday ughhh. I dont ever remember being this hungry since surgery. I thinks its from eating regular food this [past week and now back to nothing!

Warm beverages help me when I'm on liquids.  Try boullion, pureed soups, (I like the Imagine or Pacific brands that come in a carton in the Organic or healthfood sections), tea, etc.

Remember to get your protein shakes in for the protein you need.

It can take up to 3 days for the swelling to maximize from a fill so you may not feel anything today and then it will kick in on the 3rd day.

Hang in there.  Remember the payoff!

Do what your doc says!!! Stay on liquids.  Docs are different, some are 24 hrs liquid then 24 hours soft then regular food.  This is to prevent blockages as your band is swollen and it takes time for the saline to settle.

You can have tomato soup, broth, protein shakes, sweet & sour chinese soup (my fav post fill food).  Others have mentioned other good things too - I just don't recall them.

You will get thru it!

The one thing that you need to remember is liquid will slide down from the top of your band to the bottom so you will need to eat more often while on the liquid....which purpose is not to really keep you satisfied but to allow any swelling from the fill to go down to prevent having problems eating.  Do not "wait to wander" down to the cafetria", you need to have something with you because if you go down there hungry...you might now make a smart food choice.

I don't have to do any long post-fill special diet so can't help with that.

But you do need to be aware that a first fill often does not give restricition.

Good luck!

I had surgery a few weeks after you did and will be going in for my fill in a couple of weeks, I'm kind of nervous about it.  How was your experience yesterday about the whole thing??

Thanks,
Kim

The fill was fine. One stick into my port and it was over. Feels no worst than having your blood drawn. Dont worry about it!!

My first fill wasn't bad either. A couple of pokes but nothing bad. I hate needles and I did fine. My surgeon requires two days liquids, 2 days puree and a few days soft. I got my 2nd fill yesterday. I was hungry yesterday with the liquids. Today I feel much more restriction. I drink Carnation IB with skim. It helps with hunger and gives protein. Tomato soup is good. Thicker, milky consistancy liquids work better for me than broths. The tend to satisfy a little longer. But warm drinks help, too.
