WLS is supposed to be for people who have struggled with their weight as a part of food addiction, emotional eating, etc. and have tried and failed to lose weight through other methods. Part of the psych eval is to dig in to your history to see what your previous attempts have been like, where you saw success, what caused you to slip back into old patterns and to get a sense of whether you have realistic expectations of what being banded will be like.

If you have a history of struggling with your weight, then you have nothing to worry about... just be honest.

Oh, and I agree that if you're able to, either join a support group lead by a therapist or else find a 1-on-1 therapist you feel comfortable with.  Behavior modification is very difficult and it will only help you be successful if you have someone or a group of people to help you identify where your triggers are and find new, healthy ways to deal with stress.

I had been through a medically supervised program before and part of it included counseling.  I learned a LOT about where my issues came from because of it.  I really thought it was just a matter of poor will power, I had no idea there were deeper issues.  Only when I started telling my story and answering the questions the therapist asked did I start to pull it all together.  Now that I know why I have the patterns I do and what they are, I simply need some help in changing them.
