Port Replacement Yesterday

Yesterday, 5 months and 3 weeks after my band surgery, I had surgery to replace and move my port.  I had to undergo general anesthesia and he did a laparoscopy again-the result 5 more battle scars.  My port became inflammed a couple of months ago, not sure why.  I still had good restriction so erosion was doubtful. After 2 rounds of antibiotics it started filling up with fluid, finally burst last week leaving an abscess. The doctor said it may have healed up but we neither one wanted to chance it. After my surgery, the doctor said the infection wasn't on the port or tubing (THANK GOD) but just where the port was sitting possibly a result from a hematoma? Who knows.

With this being said, I DO NOT regret getting my band.  I love the life it has given me. My initial surgery I weighed 290 lbs and wore a 26/28. Yesterday, I weighed in at 207 lbs and was wearing a 14/16 jogging suit.  Life is so much more enjoyable now down 83 lbs and I would do it again even knowing up front I'd be having another surgery less than 6 months into it. Sure the lapband was a risk. Life is full of risks. The good just needs to outweigh the bad. For me, the good has definitely outweighed the bad.

Oh wow Im sorry you had to go thru that but how are you doing now?  Are you feeling good, any pain etc?  I hope that you are doing well, it is very encouraging to hear that even though you had a set back with the band that it is still something you would do again    Thank you and feel better soon

Great news on the sucess! sorry you had to do the surgury twice tho...
I think I might have to have mine moved as well. It sticks out alot and the Dr. said the more weight I lose, the more it will stick out.

what sort of symptoms were you experiencing.  I have been experiencing pain at the site where my port is.  I'm curious.  They did an xray yesterday and nothing appears to be wrong.

The incision which was healed nicely began to become red and look irritated. After antibiotics the scar line was becoming thicker and thicker. It would peel off and look like it was trying to heal but never did.  I couldn't lay on my stomach or my right side from the intense pain and burning.  I felt as if I had a pulled muscle when I moved. I knew something was wrong-just not sure what.  The redness began to spread around the incision and started feeling squishy which was telling me there was fluid. It finally burst leaving a small hole which over the next few days became bigger. Hope you are able to get some relief soon, real soon.

And because you had the band you were not in ICU and on a ventilator.  Band complications for the most part are not serious and fixable.  Congrats on your success.  Keep up the good work.
