Lap Band questions
I am reading a LOT of negative reviews on here from people who have had the LB surgery done. I have already had the informational session and the appointment to start the (mandatory) 6 month physician diet (that was yesterday). I guess i just want to know if there are any people out there who are HAPPY with their bands? Also a couple of quick questions:
What is "sliming" and "PB-ing?"
What is "sliming" and "PB-ing?"
I have had my band 2 years 5 months, I have never had any problems. There was a great post yesterday where a lot of people said they are still happy with their bands. Yes, there are a few who are not.
Sliming is when you have something stuck, so your saliva pools in your mouth because it cannot go "down".
PB is when you are stuck on some food and it comes back up, like a burp with a little food in it.
I suggest reading, reading, reading, google it and keep asking questions. Good luck on your weight loss journey.

Happy? More than happy.. my whole life has changed and for the better.
I've lost almost 190 lbs.. started at 383 and this morning was 193.6 before breakfast. I can wear normal clothing again, I shop in regular stores. I can workout. I've walked a 5K and am thinking about running one soon.
I can eat just about anything I want.. but my wants have changed. I now want healthy food (for the most part.. I'm not perfect) and I'm satisfied (not full.. there's a different feeling after banding) with smaller portions.
Sliming and PB'ing have already been explained and very well, so I won't bother to touch on that for you.

Sure, there are happy people with the band. Most, not all but most are in the first couple of years of banding before all the problems kick in.
Honestly, check out other forums such as the revision forum, failed WLS forum, or check the sleeve board. Probably 25% of them are band to sleeve revisions. Understand that ins co's are changing over to a 'one WLS in a lifetime' meaning, if you need a revision down the road you will likely be self pay.

If you just joined OH today, I don't think you've been reading posts here long enough to get a balanced view of how people feel about their WLS.
I've had my band for 3-1/2 years and am still delighted with it. I had a band slip (probably caused by my untreated hiatal hernia) that was cured by a total unfill and my port flipped and required surgery to reposition it. Some people might find those events extremely traumatic, devastating, horrifying, whatever (I'm running out of dramatic adjectives), but in my world, that kind of stuff is just inconvenient, and despite those bumps in my road, I'm still 90 pounds lighter, wearing size 10 pants, size small or medium tops, and the other day I bought a pair of children's size 5 boots on clearance that fit my formerly size 8.5 feet perfectly.
You didn't come out and ask for this comment, but I can't resist the opportunity to point out that NO weight loss surgery procedure of any description is a cure for obesity and NO weight loss surgery procedure of any description is 100% guaranteed to work for a lifetime without requiring any work on the part of the patient. For me, weight loss surgery (in my case the band, but other procedures work well for other people) is just a wonderful tool that helped me get to a healthy weight and will help me stay there.
