Newbie here!
Hello Everyone!
I am new here, joined a few days ago, but this is my first post! I went for my consultation yesterday and as soon as I get my packet done, and tests done I can set up my appointment. :) Very excited about that!!
When I walked into my seminar everyone kinda looked at me like "What is she doing here?" By looking at me, some think that I am crazy for doing this... In fact my sister had a GB done 2 yrs ago, and lost 180 pds and had her extra skin cut off and last week had a boob job done! She said to me when I told her about getting the band.... "Why r u doing this, you have always been able to lose weight when you want to" Man, I was so not expecting her to say that! I was hurt and dissapointed... I told her well should I ask you the same question, because you are younger than I am... I am only 4'7 yah no typo there! I weight 167 that is obese for how small I am, and I am very happy to be getting the band done...
I do have a few questions though... I see alot of preop talk, and all but I don't see a lot of what do I eat or how much will I be able to eat afterwards.. I have been reading the posts daily and trying to find out as much info as I can.. Some really are against the band and feel its a waste of time, and that discourages me a little.. BUT this is what I WANT... anywho..... here I am, and look forward to chatting and getting some great information....

Hi and welcome to the boards :o) !!!
There is nothing I cant eat to be honest. I fix all my normal meals that I always fixed before but I just eat a cup of it and no more.
I never did fry foods so basically I was cooking healthy before I just overate on them healthy foods lol.
Like tonight I had a porkchop steak 3/4 cup and a tiny bit of broccoli and cheese for dinner. I had no carbs because I would like some chips and salsa tonight when I watch my movie so Im saving my carbs
I still eat my pizza, I still eat my cereal but not every day and not all the time. I eat pizza once a month and I have two slices and Im very happy with that.
I eat Kellogs cereal that has 10 grams of fiber in it and it keeps me fuill for a good 3-4 hrs :o)
I keep my band on the loose side though , I dont slime, get stuck or anything like that and I dont have to cut my meat into tiny pieces either.
I have went 3 months without a fill and have lost a little over 40 pounds with a empty band :o)
There is a thread started everyday what people eat so check that out . You will find everybody eats the way they did before just smaller portions and healthier
Dont get me wrong I have my bad days where I overeat. I had one two weeks ago , Im so not perfect through this but each day I get stronger and stonger and I love it !!
Good Luck and if you need any more help I will be glad to help you out :o)

As for the people who trash the band...maybe they had a bad experience...maybe they need to justify their own WLS choice...maybe they're having a bad day...but there are lots of us who love our bands. Keep in mind that people post more often when they're new or struggling and have lots of questions, and less often when they're doing great and moving on to other interesting life projects.

Im fairly new as well, I started back in 2007 but my husband was unsupportive and I decided to go it on my own one last time before having WLS. I was also at 38+ BMI so I only qualified with comorbidities. I would say read all of the articles and studies that are posted because good or bad they are all important and informative and should all be considered when making our WLS decision. If you chose to read the threads that turn into surgery wars just keep in mind that the people who had traumatic or just bad experiences with their bands are very passionate with their feelings towards them and have good intentions. They are trying to help by letting us know what they have been thru and try to make sure that we are making an informed decision, it just doesn't always feel like it.
