just some observations

Hey there

I have been reading a book called "Why We Get Fat"...it talks about people that are predisposed to obesity.  I was watching people's eating habits at work...specifically skinny people and how they eat.  I noticed they either eat what I would think is a normal lunch (sandwich, chips) but I also noticed that quite a few skinny people eat a bunch of high calorie, high carb crap.  I watch as they come in with burgers and fries, leftover pizza or milk shakes.  They eat normal portions and sometimes more.  I know a lot of these people personally and they don't exercise regularly.  So they can eat like that and not exercise and stay thin!!!  No wonder some of these skinny people just don't understand why we can't lose weight.

I am getting obsessed with noticing what other people are eating and then I try to calculate how many calories they are eating in my head...what a weird past time.

This annoys me too! I hate it when I get judge by my weight, and of the few people know that I have the band there are 2 who don't that are skinny and don't understand why I didn't just go on a diet!

I find myself doing that too...  Also find myself repulsed by large plates of food and thinking "...how many people could eat from that plate if they at normal portions?"

I've really started to notice this too. There are definatley people out there that have super fast metabolisms without any excersise (oh why can't I get those genes? :). Then there are some that are literally starving themselves to be thin. I worked right next to this lady for about 10 years and every single day her stomach growled for hours but she felt constant hunger was worth it to be skinny.  She ate far less than I do now after having surgery - don't know if I could live with hunger like that.

Then there are the people that will break their leg in an effort to be the first one in line to get treats at the office, right after they've eaten a huge breakfast or lunch at their desk. It boggles my mind, when they sit there and complain about feeling like crap and not knowing why.

When these skinny people get over 50 years old, they gain weight and are at a complete loss as how to handle it.  They have no clue what a calorie is or what good eating habits are.  A lot of them are more unhealthy than their obese counterparts.

I grew up with a Mom who could not put on weight.. or so she claimed.

Her secret was she was almost never still.  Even if she was sitting, she was doing something, sewing usually.

I also observed that even if she did eat high calorie, there wasn't that much quantity of the high calorie item.

I'm trying to teach myself to fidget.. lol.. opposite of what I used to try to achieve (complete stillness).  They say those that are in constant movement (even if it's just wiggling their feet) burn more calories than those who don't.
