Pre-op Cardiac Clearance
Hi! This is my first post (been lurking for years) and I've just now got the courage to actually post anything.
I am preparing for Lap-Band and was sent for "cardiac clearance for surgery". Well, I just left the appointment and the Cardiologist said my EKG was abnormal so he wants further testing (Stress Echo).
I have to admit I am a bit bummed and scared.
Has anyone had a similar situation and how long did it delay your surgery (if you were eventually able to have it)?
Appreciative of any feedback...

I'm a heart patient and I had the lapband last Nov....Actually, I was approved through insurance quicker because of my heart condition!! In 2009, I had a MAJOR heart attack(99% blockage in my main artery). 45% of my heart is dead! I'm doing so good since the lapband!! Ive lost 41 pounds and today makes 4 months since my surgury!! I love my band!!! Good luck on your echo!! Joyce

First -- take a good, deep breath.
I had an EKG as part of my pre-op work, and they asked me when my heart attack was --- I freaked out, have never had any heart issues.
My EKG was abnormal, so I went to a cardiologist for a Stress EKG and an Echo (ultrasound of the heart/arteries).
It turned out that I have a tiny bit of aortic stenosis (one of my valves does not open 100%).
The cardiologist cleared me for my band surgery -- and told me that we would use that Echo as a baseline. I went back in 1 year later, had a repeat echo and it had not gotten any better or any worse.
He told me that I am always going to have a slightly abnormal EKG (especially when just taken by machine and not evaluated by a trained cardiologist) -- and not to worry about it.
It took about 2 weeks from the original EKG to the clearance (the Cardiologist got me in right away for the tests, then about 7 days to get the follow up appointment).
