Considering the band? Think twice!
You notice how often Maria ends her paragraphs with "LOL"? I can just picture her, sitting at her computer, day in and day out, cackling like a hyena at the upset she causes (apparently she never exercises which is apparently where she gets all her energy to come on here and stir up sh*t). Actually, her posts remind me of Charlie Sheen's recent rants. Poor Charlie - going on the internet disparaging people and making himself look like a psycho. Trouble is, people like that never see themselves the way others see them which is the true mark of a sociopath. Ah well, sometimes ya just gotta be glad you're not some people.

Hi,
Maybe some of you newbies should take heed. I am not negative band but spending 5 years as a bandster who lost 90%of my excess weight (155 pounds total lost) gives me some credibility to say: RUN RUN RUN!! For most of you, everything will go well in the first couple of years.
But long term, the band does some major damage to your body.
When I had my revision 3 years ago, I had adhesions and scarring everywhere. The original Inamed band was too tight for my anatomy even empty. I had a partial prolapse, slip, dysphagia and pseudo achalasia of the esophagus. IT is a permanent problem I now have when I swallow.
Last after having 12 fills and unfills, lack of restriction, major reflux and spitting up coffee grinds (blood) and a subsequent removal, I would carefully consider whether you want a band especially if you are self pay with a greater than 24% chance of a reoperation. Also if you move to a different state, no other doctor wants to touch you due to potential liability issues. Just saying.....
Hail to the sleeve on my 3 year anniversary today!!!!
Babs

Well said!
Sorry about the permanent damage you have from the band. The band is removable.........NOT reversable. We have had some discussions about that on here lately. Some ppl refuse to beleive that!
Glad your doing so much better with the VSG!!!
Babs,
It was such a relief to read your posts! I have been having trouble with my band for years! The Dr's look at me like I am crazy. I have 1 cc in it and that is "closing up' on me. I am going for a complete unfill tomorrow. I hate this thing. If I would have known how much maintenance is involved, I would have gotten another procedure. I paid 16K in 2007 for it and every fill-unfill is $250. I have had plenty of those. Your posts have given me such hope-I am going to pursue the VSG. I want this alien out of me!!
Thank you so much!!
Patty

All I can say Is "Thank God for freedom of Speech". To each his own...lol..any info. is good infro. to me..I read everything and take it with a grain of salt.. I had the Lap Band done in March of 2009. I lost 80 pounds with one fill (4cc/in a 10cc band..) I gain a few pounds and lose a few. my fault..NOT the bands..I eat what I want. I am happy with my weightloss so far ..But, I keep thinking of getting a second fill to lose alittle more weight..but, I hate the idea of starting over..I like where I am..I have not had any poblems what-so-ever. (except gallbladder removeal). I think everyone should know the good, the bad and the ugly with any weightloss surgery.. The more I read the more I learn..If in the future I have major problems, I will deal with it and take what I have learned from this forum when the time comes.. I just hate the bickering that goes on here.. I thought this was a question and answering board not a mud slinging one. just saying..."Lucky"
2/09 pre. 264.7 214 lbs. Band removal. 4/29/20014 revision to sleeve 12/2/14 243.4
I just want to thank the original poster for giving me the best free entertainment!
As far as complications, I've been blessed so far. If in the future, I do have complications, I will deal with it at that time. But I will not be a raving lunatic. :)
I would never be where I am today without the band. Since I've had my band, all symptoms of diabetes is gone! And the scale is starting to move again after months of a major stall.(stall was due to some emotional eating after losing both my brother and sister within 10 months of each other)
