Considering the band? Think twice!

Maria -

I'd like to know what your actual problems with the band are that you feel that have to lead the ANTI-Band campaign here. So Maria - you lost >60lbs since you were banded - would you have lost that weight without WLS? or are you just upset that you haven't lost twice as much? Maybe you need to stop questioning the tool and instead question your application of it! If you have medical problems I can certainly understand your frustruation but if you had not lost that weight you probably would have other medical problems now or soon. If you feel you should have chosen another type of WLS then I can provide a few references of people who had all kinds of complications and still would do it again anyday for the simple reason that "it was all worth in" in their words.

I think you should stop flooding this forum with negativity and instead ask for advice on how you could come to a better place in your own situation.

This post was not about MY negative band experience, now was it? It was about a NEUTRAL report by Consumer Reports and the ASMBS was mentioned as well. They should not print 'negative" reports about the band even though the band has many negative aspects to it??? lol.

And why is it that you feel I should NOT be allowed to post on a public band forum with I am a bandster?! Where is MY support???

I can understand her frustration.  The band hasn't really helped her lose weight, she's done it through diet and exercise.  While that is all fine and well D/E is successful for a whopping 4% in trying to keep it off long term.

I think that's pretty legit, don't you?

And why is everyone horrified when anyone posts anything that doesn't make the band look like God's gift to fat folks?

Maria how much weight have you lost since u had this miserable band ? I believe it was around 100 pounds or so ?  You post all this info on the band but you neglect to say how much you have lost since you have had the band .

Going to mention the bad you might as well mention the good to unless  you think 100 pounds isnt worth talking about .

Of course not! That is impossible as you know!

As I said...............I lost b/c of the band for 2 wks. The first 2 wks. I had no appetite b/c of the swelling from surgery. I do give the band credit for that portion of my weight loss. After that............the band has NOT worked as advertised! I have lost the rest of the weight from STARVING MYSELF! I did NOT waste $15,000 to lose weight ONLY by starving myself!

I havea a total of 175 lbs gone.... I still support my choice, there are risks with all things. The trick is doing what is best for you, there are risks with everything....  we all make a choice and go from there. If one surgery was the do all and be all...then we would all have that one surgery.  The best advice for anyone is do YOUR OWN research, and then make YOUR OWN choice...don't let anyone else decide for you.  Learn how to pull what is valid and correct from that which paints a false light and go from there.  I along with many others here will gladly honestly answer any questions you may have, and if you are considering several types of surgeries, many of us have friends that have had the other types that can sing the praises of those choices.  Just remember... do what is best for you....

just keep swimming :)

Swoosh your right it's a personal choice. Ppl choose different WLS's for various reasons. It's not a "one size fits all" type of things. I just post b/c I feel anyone pre-op has the right to have this info to make an INFORMED decision about the band! If they know..........and still want it...........I wish them all the luck.

Also those post-op need to know that they are not the only ones that might be having band problems. Support should be for EVERYONE!

And congrats on the 175!
