Ok , I need to get some things off my chest.

I'm tired of being the FAT health and physical education teacher. I put on lots of weight after my divorce, and there were lots of stress and changes in my life....I turned to food as a compulsive overeater....

I'm grateful that I had the lap band 3 months ago and hope to gain more self respect, and lose the pounds, and lead a healthy life....the one that I was meant to be. It is a TOOL for me.....

***************************
I never want to hear these hurtful words AGAIN:

HS Student: Ms. K, I have 2 words for you......JENNY  CRAIG!!!!

another 4th gr. student: Ms. K, I thought a health teacher was NOT suppose
to be FAT !!??

classroom: Me, bending down to pick something up, class giggling cuz I look like I will fall over....

I'm a published author in the field of health and physical education. I know what to do...I have all the training. I have all the knowledge. I've helped so many. Now it's time to help me!!!

Thanks for letting me vent!!!

Does your school have an anti-bullying program? Because that's exactly what those kids are doing to you . . .

I have to admit that things are going pretty well for me in "real life", so can't complain there.  Can I complain about my OH peeve without naming names?  Hope so, 'cause here goes:
I don't understand why people don't just use the "block" feature to screen out negativity around here.  There are some people with an agenda for coming to OH.  They supposedly want to help pre-ops make an informed decision, but then tell them that they are too stupid or under-informed to make their own decision about surgery, even after they are told all the "stats" by that same person!  They tell post ops that they made a mistake, or went to the wrong surgeon, or say things like "wait until your band fails", etc.

Yes, if you are a pre-op, you need to be well-informed about all your surgical options, and you need to be pro-active in getting the best surgery for you.  But, if you are a post-op, you will not benefit from reading all the band negativity over and over again.  BLOCK or ignore, don't engage!

Oh, come on. Can we GUESS who the people are? Does one of them look like a drunken sot in a tiara? (Oh! What a giveaway!)

Anyway, I am ALL FOR people being educated about all the options, because I want everyone to succeed as best as they can. The problem comes when the "informer" start being an (_*_) about it.

And the "wait until your band fails" is just plain mean. Who WISHES that someone's surgery fails? It's like someone having cancer, opting for radiation, and having someone who advocates chemotherapy saying, "wait until your cancer gets worse. Har har hardee har."  People seem to forget that we are ALL IN THIS TOGETHER. But some people would just rather be mean and hurtful to make themselves feel better.

"Can we GUESS who the people are?"

Actually this is a "composite" of a few of the worst offenders!  I wonder what would happen if we went to another board on a regular basis to remind their pre-ops of all the possible dangers of that particular surgery.

What bothers me more sometimes is those who have the band, or who had one previously.  While I can understand their frustration if the band didn't work for them, as one who has lived with one, they know that those of us who are trying our best to work the tool we have need positive support, not to get dumped on every other day.

Just thought of something else that pissed me off this week.

I went to my bariatric doc last month because of heartburn.  I was a self-pay patient, and had my credit card out to pay for my visit, but was told, "Oh, we'll file it with your insurance as an office visit, so you just have to pay the co-pay."  Great, so paid my $20 co-pay, and was thrilled with this new way of handling self-pay patients.  Over the next five days, I spent $1200 in deductibles and co-pays for *covered* services (barium swallow and endoscopy).  Then, this week I got a bill from by bariatric surgeon for another $350.00.  Although they billed insurance for 2 unfills (5 days apart) and an ultrasound, insurance only paid a small portion of that.  The ultrasound to find the port is something I'd never had before (my port is just under the skin, and very easy to find), but they apparently do the ultrasound if they are going to bill insurance.  When I paid on my own, they would do a second adjustment within a few days for free, but now they charged for both.  So, I ended up paying more to my bariatric doc when they were billing to insurance, than I paid on my own before.

And why do they charge so much for an adjustment anyway?  A regular doctor's visit doesn't cost as much as a fill, *and* I'm not even seeing a doc, just a PA, and that's for less than 5".  What's up with that?

Insurance companies are such a joke now days.  *sigh*.  I wish I had insurance (sometimes ) but because my husband is a self employed the company dont provide him with insurance and I dont have 2000 grand a month to plunk out on insurance.

Sometimes I think you are way better off to get things done without the insurance putting their sticky hands into it .

We had allergy testing done on my son they charged me only 500 bucks but I saw the bill and asked about it and they said oh well if you had insurance we would have billed the insurnace 1800 bucks !!!!

now if they can bill me only 500 why cant they do that with insurance then ? 500 to 1800 is a extreme jump !!  No wonder people cant afford to keep health insurance now days . More and mroe people are losing it .

My doc charges me 75 bucks a fill since I dont have insurance but if you have insurance its 175 *sigh*

they just put a thing in my dad's policy at his company that he owns if you smoke then the insurance is going to go  up also.

So he told his folks either you quit smoking your you dont have insurance . Dad cant afford to pay the extra on the insurance he pays high enough now on the 10 people he employs .

Insurance is all a joke imo .

Oh, man, you're singing to the choir here.  My husand is self-employed, and we pay an insane amount for lousy coverage.  Plus, we can't switch until I've had the band for five years without complication (still checking with other companies, though).  The smoking thing is another issue.  I smoke an electronic cigarette.   I get the nicotine, but not the toxic smoke, but since I'll test positive for nicotine, I have to give that up, too, or pay double if/when we switch.

Tami,

I was thinking about getting one of them when I quit but my doc is sooo strict with the nicotine its insane .  When we do our blood work if we test postive for nicotine in our system he can and will stop seeing you . He has done it with a couple of patients.

He made that very clear to me when I first saw him if you smoke and I catch you then I can stop seeing you.

I am to scared to even try now to go back to smoking and after 5 months I dont have the desire to . Well some days I do especialy when its one of them I want to eat everything in site days . When I had them days I smoked alot more to keep me from eating that is what I do miss about smoking it did help control my food urges a good part of the time .
