Such a sad thread

I always tell my husband that the 20,000 dollars I spent getting the lap band is the most expensive learning lesson I have ever had in my life, because deep down I knew what I had to do to lose weight it took a piece of plastic in me to finally "get it" . "

This surgery business is serious stuff -- even now, when they say today's surgeries are safer than older surgeries. That's why wls is only recommend for people that have tried everything else and need to lose a lot of weight. It's so sad, when you read about those with complications.

Personally, I would've liked to forgo the surgery and lose without it, but I had to take a very frank look at myself and accept that just wasn't going to happen.  If I didn't lose the weight with or without surgery, than it is very likely I would be dealing with some very serious health issues at some point in my future -- like heart disease, diabetes, and joint deterioration. Who knows -- I might have a serious health issue in the future, but my getting down to a more normal weight I'm giving myself a better shot.

What an eye opener.  I am so glad I got the band.  I prefer my "foreign object" over hundreds (also a foreign object) of titanium staples that can and do come loose.  A lot of these people really suffered from a low quality of life after this surgery.  Sadly 20 years ago this was their only weight loss surgery choice.  One really has to do their research today and think about how this surgery will affect you 20 or 30 years down the road.  I  hope they can have revision surgery and get their problem solved.  My heart goes out to them.
