The 10cc is usually the allergan "lap-band", and I think the 14cc is a realize band.  I could be wrong.  I know I have a 10cc allergan band.

You could go to the different sites (lapband.com & realize.com) and see what size bands each provides.

There's also a "midband" that I believe is mainly used overseas.  And I think the 4cc band is mainly used by surgeons in Mexico and SA.

Don't take any of this for gospel, this is all information I've picked up from reading on various boards & websites.  Except for the fact that I have a 10cc allergan band.. and even that I'm taking on faith as I was asleep when it was placed (thank goodness!! ::grin::)

I believe the 4cc band is an "older model" band.  The 10 cc which is what I have is considered a small band and the 14cc the large.  I believe the Realize brand bands are 9cc and 11cc.  I've read where people with the Realize have stated there band has a 9 or 11 cc capacity.    All bands can hold slightly more than where official capacity because of the tubing and such.

I have the 14ml allergan band.

Here is the DFU information from Allergan

"The LAP-BAND AP® System is available in two sizes, Standard
and Large. The physician should choose the appropriate size
depending upon the patient’s individual anatomy. Most patients
with correctly fitted bands report minimal, if any, restriction
following resolution post-operative edema until saline is added
to the band, regardless of band size. The Large band is normally
used for re-operations (particularly conversion from other
procedures) and the pars flaccida dissection. Surgeons are
advised to evaluate the amount of tissue within the band prior to
band locking and suturing in place, and, if it appears excessive, to
remove some omental tissue or move the dissection closer to the
stomach wall or higher on the stomach. Additional information
regarding size selection is provided in the training program."

As far as the "owner" is concerned, we feel no difference. I have the older model (4cc) which was used up until about 2007 at which time it was replaced by the newer, larger design (nothing to do with the country in which it was done, just the time).

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

I have the 10cm, 4cc band and I have 3cc of saline in it. It is a low volume high pressure band. The newer ones are high volume low pressure bands. I don't think it really makes too much of a difference what you have, as long as it works. It seems that most people need it to be filled to about 3/4 filled to get good restriction. You know as soon as you get yours six months later the "newer model" or technique comes out. I have done real well with what I have and would fight like hell if anyone wanted to change it.
