Protein in urine
Are you drinking Whey Protein and found to be tested for protein in their urine? I had my yearly physical this past week and was found to have protein in my urine, which the doctor says is an early sign of kidney disease. Reading on the internet it says that people drinking whey protein are found to have this because the kidneys can't always break down this kind of protein. I'm going to stop drinking my protein shakes and stop earting the "Pure Protein bars for three months and be re-tested to see if there is a connection there.
Has anyone out there experienced this or heard of this happening to someone else?
Thanks,
DiAnna

Interesting.
I don't do protein drinks unless I've had a fill or a stuck episode. I eat a Greek yogurt for breakfast and that has 14 grams of protein in it. I get all of my protein by eating food.

It might also depend on how MUCH protein you were getting per drink or bar or whatever. Some "experts" (I dislike that word) say that our bodies can only process 20 to 25 grams of protein at a time..and if we throw more at our system, it's just wasted.
Also check to see that the protein you're using is whey protein Isolate and not concentrate. I don't recall all the details, but we had a speaker at our support group recently and they emphasized that Isolate was better metabolized and has less lactose in it.
Until recently, I got all my protein through real food too, like others have said. Currently I'm too busy to eat breakfast, so I do use a protein drink in the mornings, but it's less than 20grams.
Good luck, hope you feel better soon. Let us know how you do.
