Shifting port?

I noticed earlier that the spot where I can feel my port seems to have shifted.  I never felt it all that defined until my first fill two weeks ago, and it was below my scar.  That's where the needle mark is too.  But today i noticed that it feels like the port moved up - - it's now above my scar.  I generally feel ok.  My port area is tender, but is has been since surgery. I'm going to call my surgeon's office tomorrow, but has anyone else experienced this?  Is it normal for the port to move a little, or does everyone else's stay put?  Appreciate any insights.  Thanks so much.

I remember when I first had my surgery I thought my port had broke free and was just moving around in there. LOL I felt it like 3 or 4 inches above where I last felt it. Well I am fine. If I lay down it was near the scar, but when I sat or stood it was in a different area. Ask your Dr, but I bet you are fine.

It should be well and truly stitched into position! But it may be that what you felt before was swelling - I remember having a very hard lump I thought was my port which disappeared some time (forget when!) psot-op.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Mine is in a different place when I am laying down than when standing.........also as I lost weight my abs changed and the port didn't actually move per se (it is stitched) but it now sat higher because of the lack of fat (abdominals changed)............ I just wish that my girls moved higher as well LOL!!!!!

If you felt a pop or are in alot of pain then I would contact your surgeon.

Thanks everyone.  I'm going to call my doctor's office this morning just to be safe, but I think I"m probably experiencing that stand up/lie down difference for the first time.  Thanks again for the input - - helped to calm me down!

I remember when I got my first fill and I was shocked when the PA did the fill and it was way lower than I thought it should be.   When I got home and laid down, I felt where the band aid was and ta da.... I felt my port there.  It definitely "feels" like it's in a different spot standing versus sitting / laying down.  Now that I've lost more weight I can actually feel my tubing from my port.  I don't have much fat on my upper abdomen.  ( I'm pear shaped )

Hi Kylie,

I started having pain in November and was told it is a gastric issue and should see my gastro doctor.  I went to the Er twice and they admitted me to figure out what the problem was.  It turned out the por****ing a nerve.  The port should not shift, but I think it can if not sewed in properly.

I had surgery about a month ago to have the port moved over to the left more. Mine was also tender.  I noticed that when I went to get fills it started to hurt. My doctor made me feel like I was losing my mind.

The a few weeks later it came out that the band was placed lower then it should have been.

Good luck.  Hope this was helpful.  Let me know if I can be of more assistance.

Think of a rock.  It doesn't move, parts don't shift.  Your abdominal cavity isn't a rock, it moves and shifts.

Your port.. that might feel lumpy and big for awhile but it's likely scar tissue that goes away with time until you get o goal.

The band got me to goal, the sleeve will keep me there.

I was surprised at my first fill that the bruising was below where I thought my port was...it seems to be much higher when I am vertical than horizontal.  Also, I guess we forget that our skin "slides" around on our fat layer a bit, so it can be pretty misleading if we just look at the scar!

I actually posed this question to my NP when I was there on Wednesday. It is normal for it to "move" but its not moving in the sense that its freely moving about, but your body is changing as you lose weight. So it may not be where it was originally, but its still in place. I hope that makes sense!
