Post-op walking
Hey All,
I'm brand new to this site and just had my surgery 5 days ago. Everything I'm reading says walking is important in the beginning stages. How much walking am I supposed to do? Is it too much if I walk at the mall for 30 minutes? Should I just walk around the house? Any advice would be helpful.

At five days out, I would think that it's really up to you. Just do what is comfortable at this point while you're healing. After a few weeks, gradually add a little bit of time, distance or intensity to your walks. Consistency + progression = fitness.
Congrats on your new band, and best wishes for your journey to better health and fitness!

I went to the mall and was there for a good couple hrs about a week after surgery . I just kept walking and when I got tired I would sit down and rest .
You can never do to much walking. It helps with the gas and exercise helps you to heal faster :o)
When you become tired or a litte sore just sit down and rest . I walked so much after surgery I think that is one of the reasons why I didnt get no gas pains I hardly ever sat down after my surgery .

Just walking does niot hurt anything internally. Sso how much depends on what you feel up to doing. good luck.
I am at seven weeks since surgery. I went to the gym too soon and tried to do crunches and ended up with a lot of pai that is finally getting better. So, walking is best for awhile.

At 5 days post op, I was walking 30 - 45 minutes per day outside (in the AZ heat of June).
I was allowed to walk as much as I felt able, and to work out on cardio equipment --- no weight lifting until about 6 - 8 weeks post op.
I also tried to convince my husband and I could not do housework or laundry for 6 months post-op -- but he didnt' buy it!! LOL
