Speaking from MY experience, they used stitches that dissolved in about a week. And the incisions were really nothing: 5 small ones, the largest one was about 3" long.

Breathe . . . . breathe . . .  go to your "happy place"!

My incisions were so small.  They closed them with surgical glue.  The surgery was so easy for me.  I had no pain, gas or swelling.  I came home and slept on my stomach.  The easiest part is the surgery.  The month after with the special diet is the hard part.  Good luck, let us know how you are doing.

I had my surgery on 1-14-11.  My incisions were very small and there were no staples for me. Now, you can hardly see them at all, but the one over the port is largest. I took IBU for the SLIGHT pain. I did this because gas rules your world for a few days, and a nurse gave me some good advise as I was leaving.  She said when they put you to sleep, your gut goes to sleep too.  If you take perscription pain meds, it wants to stay asleep and you have continuing gas.  Maybe I was lucky with the small amount of pain from surgery. But the advise about the pain meds worked well for me. After a couple of days the gas pains got more and more manageable.  Good Luck to you!

Hang in there!  It'll soon be a distant memory.

My stitches dissolved on their own over time.  I am just over a year out and really have to look to even see where some of the scars are - especially since all that fat around my middle is going away!  Try to focus on that part when you go in on Wednesday.

And like Bette says - go to your happy place.  I had myself so worked up just before surgery I was moving myself into a full fledged panic attack.  The moment my surgeon walked in the panic toned way down.  Have faith in your research, your surgeon, their team, and God if you're of that mind.  I was raised Catholic in the school year & Baptist in the summer.  When they wheeled me into the OR I was remembering the rosary and singing "How Great Thou Art!" in my head.  Do what works for you.  It's the scariest part for us but really the easiest.  We get to sleep through it!

You'll do great.  I am so excited for you to take this step & join us on the Losers Bench!

Hey Dee, if it makes you feel any better (even though I'm embarrassed) here is a pic of my belly 5 days post op.  The incisions are tiny, and just a teeny bit of bruising at each site.
