Hi guys!!! I had my first fill on Saturday, they put 5 cc's in my Johnson and Johnson 11cc band. I was told to stay on a liquid diet for 3 day's and I hope that I feel restriction. So far I really dont feel anything different, but I am not on solids yet so I dont know.  I hope its enough... What do you guys think? I hope that I keep loosing at least 2 pounds a week, as far as what I am eating, I think I am on the right track, I am bascially doing the south beach diet. My doctor really hasnt given me much food info, I had my surgery in Mexico. What type of food plan were you given after your first fill???

I am not trying to be smart but are you serious?? You got your band placed in Mexico and your surgeon did not provide you with any post op diet plan or how to live with your band? If not you REALLY need to start researching the band and how to live with it.

Hopefully someone can provide you with post op diet instructions, but most have to be on liquids and mushy foods until their band heals after 6 weeks postop, I hope you have AFTERCARE lined up in the US otherwise your journey will be very bumpy, remember AFTERCARE is more important than getting the band placed. Also remember fills are not an exact science and you really need to be close by to your surgeon in the event you need an emergency unfill especially the first year until you reach a good restriciton level, this can happen very frequently with the band.

OK, that last response was not what I was expecting, so just to clarify... I did a lot of research before settling on the surgeon and surgery I had. I am more than happy with my choice to go to Mexico, I recieved excellent care from a state of the art facility and was able to afford my surgery because I am a self payer. I was given diet instructions after surgery and did very well, I am past my 6 week stage (hence me getting my first fill) and I have aftercare here with my doctor at home, in case I have a problem, I have a back up plan locally and since I live only a few hours from the border seeing my doctor in Mexico is not a big deal. All I was asking is what type of specific foods if any were you given after your first fill and your 3 days of liquids? I dont see what the big deal is by me asking that question? From reading the posts on here, there are different tips that you could learn from asking someone who has already been there??? I was given some instuctions but I wanted to hear from others and what they did?

From the tenor of your post, i am guessing you got a reply from a lady who has blocked me because I have in the past picked her up when she gave out inaccurate info!! Never hesitate to ask!

Having said that, none of us can really help you much on this one as our post-fill protocols range from just "take care" to a week of liquids!! My own doc tells me to stick to thick liquids for the rest of the day and then on to normal foods "with care" the next day - even if i have a late afternoon fill and so next day is very soon! For my thick liquids I just do very, very thick soups!

Take care when you start to eat again, whenever it is. Having a nasty episode soon after a fill is quite common as things take us by surprise! My only painful epsiode in almost 5 years was just a day or so after my first fill!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Correction, I give out CORRECT information that newbies may not want to hear, that will help them, yes I have Kate blocked she seems to be a lonely stalker, I have my reasons for that. I am going on 6 years post op with my orginal band and with no complications, and you have others that are selling books to newbies that have slipped their bands something is wrong that picture, any way good luck to you.

Ideally you should stay on liquids and soft foods after an adjustment most surgeons recommend 3-5 days after a recent fill, reason being is there can be swelling and if solid food are eaten it can cause obstruction.

Good that you are taking precaution on aftercare., I just hate to see a train wreak in the process and to see another lap band statistic.

5cc's seems to be an aggressive fill to me.. but my perceptions may be skewed as my largest fill EVER was only 1cc.  :)

My post fill protocol has always been liquids day of fill, soft foods that evening and progress back to regular/solid food as tolerated.  If anything causes a problem to back down to the previous stage and proceed more slowly.

So if I had no further guidance than 3 days of liquid, I would do that, then do a day or two of soft and then on to solids.

What other instructions were you given?  (just curious).

Hey Jules --

My surgeon tried 5cc at my first fill (I have an 11cc Realize band also) --- and it was too much, so he took out 1cc.

I went to Liquids for 1 day-- and then soft food (chili, tuna salad, yogurt, etc) for a day, then back to regular food cautiously.

That is a pretty hefty fill -- so, go lightly with food -- make sure you are doing small bites, chewed well -- and no liquid with  your meals.

Good luck!
Kath

Everyone is different but most people don't feel restriction on their first fill.  For most it's 3-5 fills...for me it was 7-8 fills.  So many doctors don't explain to people that they might not reach ideal restriction for awhile...leaving you on your own while you are waiting around.  Every doctor's after care and instructions are so different.  For instance your doctor has you on liquid for three days...mine only has me on liquids for 24 hours (this has worked out fine for me).  Then I can eat food as I can tolerate it.

Good luck with your journey.
