Nothing in that "study" surprises me.  I think we all know that RNY patients are likely to lose more weight in their first year than Lap Band patients. Many of us considered RNY, and chose Lap Band for reasons other than rate of weight loss.

I have to say that yes maybe RNY loose weight more drasticly at first than the band, but, I am a RNy paitent of almost 8 yrs now and these studies dont show how after a few yrs out you begin to regain the weight back, cause yr pouch expands, and how malnurished you get and expect more hospitalization cause of amemia..hmmm..not a fan so now going to a revision to a lap band..

I don't think I've ever seen anyone get revised from a RNY to a Band. (I've seen them add a Band over the stoma of an RNY, but that doesn't sound like what you're planning.) Just how is that done? Do they do a total reversal of your intestinal bypass, put the stomach back together, and then place a Band? Tell me more!

Great info Diana. Unfortunately it falls upon deaf ears in this forum though! :-(

Boy you said that right, Maria.
It's actually sad, because I remember being kind of like that too when I first had the band.

And sad to say I had a rude awakening. I really hope it does not happen to any of them, because it is very hard to deal with, because our indoctrination is so good that we believe we are always at fault if things don't turn out like we dreamed.

It always makes me so sad on this forum to see the bandsters blame the other bandsters for their own band problems. How cruel!!! I mean I do realize that there are a few that are to blame, but most are not at fault. Either the band works or it doesn't! So it doesn't matter how many band rules u get...........or how many fills u get...................if your "tool" doesn't work.................IT'S NO DIFFERENT THAN TRYING TO LOSE WEIGHT BEFORE YOU GOT THE BAND!!!

Very glad you were able to revise to DS. I know you will do great with that!!!

just to clear the air, I wasn't placing blame at all. I was responding to the article, not the person who posted. this is a site for support and openmindedness. sorry if it offended anyone at all, but my previous post was my personal opinion. I do hope that we are all successful with our own weight loss because as we all know it can be extremely difficult. anyway, much luck and I give my full support to anyone who is in the battle of losing weight to become a healthier, happier person

And this study was only for 1 year - by year 5 75% of bands placed have failed (either removed or inadequate weight loss) - there is something to look forward to.
