Does your dr. allow you to take vitamins in pill form or still recommend chewables?

Thanks

I take both --- my doctor doesn't care (he suggests that I keep pills to the size of an aspirin or cut them in half)

I take a chewable multi -- and I take calcuim and D3 in pill form.

I take migraine medicine and sleeping medicine (when needed) in pill form.

Most docs allow them in pill form BUT take enormous care! Many of us cannot swallow them, or any tab.

I could take any tabs for the first year, although I had excellent restricition. Then one morning I woke up and my tiny bp cap didn't go down. It didn't hurt but waves of taste kept coming back up. I thought it was a one-off but the next day, it didnt' go down either! And that hurt a bit.

Now, although I am not in any way tight, I cannot swallow ANY tab at all, even if cut, It has to be crushed or liquid.

With some tabs, it doesn't matter if they dissolve above the band but some require the more intense acidic enviornment of the lower stomach. JeanM ended up in ER after a pharmacist told her her antibio cap would be OK dissolving above the band! He was wrong!

You may never have a problem. Many bandsters don't. But a lot prefer not to risk it - especially those who have ever had an issue.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Mine doesn't care, but I still take chewables, Those big, honkin' vitamin  pills just lie in my stomach like a big ol' lump.

My doctor doesn't care.  I have always taken my medicine and vitamins in pill form.  I have had no issues.  I do take my vitamins after lunch because taking them in the morning makes me queezy...but I have always been that way.

I am going on 6 years post op and I will NEVER take a hard round pill as long as I have restriction in my band, I got a pill stuck about 3 years ago and ended up in the ER and vomited about 10 times before that small vitron C pill came up, so I learned my lesson after that. I either take chewable or liquid.

I need to do chewables. Technically speaking I can swallow a big pill -- BUT it just sits there and I keep tasting it for hours. NOT pleasant enough for me to want to repeat, plus there is the possibility of getting stuck on it and needing an unfill to get it unstuck. So I'm happily chew my vitamins.

I still use the chewable, but take regular tablets, so I could probably switch. I just make sure and take any regular tablets with food, so it will "break down" before it gets to the band. I've never had any problems. But check with your Dr to see what they suggest.

Do you take childrens' chewables or do they make adult chewables'?
