Alcohol or caffeine?
My surgeon said, in my initial consult, that it was okay to drink wine and have coffee. My nutritionist said no because caffeine could irritate the pouch and wine would more negatively affect your liver after the surgery. From reading lots of band boards, though, it looks like people have received all kinds of advice on this topic.
Do you have alcoholic drinks ever? Do you drink coffee (regular)? Thanks!

Due to fertility, I'm trying to stay off both as often as I can (still slip up now and then), but I found that I could have both at my tightest with no problems.

I drink one or two regular cups and then maybe a cup or two of decaf. It's cold here and I tend to drink more hot drinks now. As far as alcohol, I might have one wine cooler once every 2-3 weeks. It's wasted calories.

I don't drink coffee (don't like it)
I do drink alcohol in moderation --- 1 - 2 glasses of wine per week maybe.
I did not drink any alcohol for about 6 weeks after surgery -- then, sipped some wine before dinner at a restaurant (about 1/2 a glass).
I feel the effects sooner than I did pre-band -- so, be careful.

Neither for the first few weeks.
Now alcohol in moderation and coffee (fully caffeinated) to excess!

I lasted 4 days without coffee then caved. However, we have mixed ours to 1/2 decaf, 1/2 regular. I normally drink 2 cups in the morning, then maybe some iced tea mixed the same way. I have never had a problem, but if you are prone to GI irritation I would stay away from it.
As for wine, well I rarely have any. preferring to have my calories in food. I am not afraid to have some wine, though, just not often. I even more rarely drink anything else but many report that they feel the effects very quickly and out of proportion to the amount/strength. In other words we are cheap dates! We are also warned against drinking alcohol because after restricting our eating we are prone to transfer addictions, such as shopping, gambling, sex, and alcoholism. It has happened to quite a few even here on OH. If you know you can avoid these traps then feel free, I have(I believe) an addictive personality so I try to keep a pretty tight rein on myself. When we give up overeating we either have to deal with the causes or risk the alternatives.
\good luck with your band, Sue

I don't drink either very often.
I only drink caffine when I go out to eat and I forgot my Crystal Light packet and have to order iced tea or something like that.
I drink alcoholic drinks once in a great while. I think last year I drank 2-3 drinks.
I kept the caffine to a minimum even before surgery because I sleep better without it. Also I keep liquid calories at zero on most days.
