Decision made

Hi Jana, I just wanted to add my 2 cents! I really wanted the lap-band surgery. In fact right up until 3 weeks before surgery my mind was set on it. When I went to my final consult before surgery my surgeon told me he really felt I needed the sleeve due to my history with NSAIDS. I too have Rheumatoid Arthritis and he told me his concern was the NSAIDS could erode the band. Said I would probably have revision surgery with in 2-5 years (if not sooner). This really made me stop and think about my choice. I didnt hesitate, I didnt want to take a chance and jeopardize my health. I am soo happy with my decision and am not having any difficulties with the NSAIDS.

Sleevers do not malabsorb but due to our reduce food intake we do have difficiencies. I take calcium, iron, B12, D3 along with a multi vitamin daily. My labs have been really good except the iron. I've recently change over to Vitalady's Tender Iron and am taking religiously. So am hoping to see a better number on my next labs.

Good luck on your decision but definately think it through and do LOTS of research. Feel free to join us on the VSG board anytime.

My first thought with your health issues is that the sleeve might work better with all of your meds.  My surgeon says no NSAIDS with the band.  And if your surgeon is 2.5 hours away, it would be less of a hassle for post op appts etc.

Good luck to you!

Thankyou for replying so fast Kristi, my head is telling me the sensible option for me is the sleeve, but my heart is saying the band, I am just scared that if I wake up and there are problems, you can't change anything as its gone!  Am I worrying too much?  By the way I couldn't go today to sign the consent form, I wasn't well enough to travel!
