Helping newbies - difficult foods. Join in to make this a reference thread.
I don't think there's anything I ABSOLUTELY cannot eat. There are things I can only eat very small amounts of, and I have to chew very carefully. They include most carbs, no matter how crispy (crackers) or thin (pizza crust) or toasted (bread) they are. Oh well...I consider this a good thing because they were my ultimate binge foods pre-surgery!
Foods that are difficult for me:
Bread/Toast
Crackers
Pizza crust
Dry cereal
Mashed Potatoes (too thick...they just sit there)
Oatmeal (ditto)
French fries
Dry meat without any type of sauce, gravy, etc.
Broccoli
Bananas (can only eat about 1/2)
Pears/Apples (again, only 1/2)
"Dry" eggs - omelettes, fried eggs, etc. Only soft scrambled and poached work for me

Almost 6 yrs out & I have no official "Can't" food. However, if I take my time to chew & make the bites small it would be breads of all types (that includes pizza doughs, sandwich thins, toast, etc..), over cooked/dried out meats (especially an overly dried steak & includes jerky too), and if I wanted a really slow slow slow chewing meal any type of salad that has lettuce as it's main component.
Other then that, I'm good to go!!!

I think dry food in general every bandster needs to be careful with
I personally dont have anything I can't eat. When I was first banded and the first year there were alot of things I could not eat or had to be real careful with but looking back I think my band was just to tight that it restricted what I was able to eat. Or when I was able to eat (breakfast) , over the corse of the second year I was able to eat more things , now I can't think of any thing other than dry food..

As with many, I can do things one day and not the next. Things I could not eat 6 months ago I can do now. That being said, here are mine
No go's include:
Eggs in any form except Egg Beaters
Anything cooked too long
Any steak but the most tender, like rib eye, even then with a sauce and cooked rare, never reheated
pulled pork
sausage with a casing
any sandwich
dry hamburger
chicken breast in any form but boneless skinless chicken thighs are fine
tuna or canned salmon
rice
any bread other than 1/2 piece of whole grain bread
rolls
macaroni or noodles
Things I can eat with care
above mentioned steak (I also have to be well hydrated)
fruit of any type, usually without peels but never just eaten whole, I must cut into slices
asparagus
pasta, I can eat some lasagna or tiny bits of spaghetti only
whole grain muffins
Most other things I can handle well. I expect that after a year I will be able to attempt some of the other things and see what happens. I have trouble with chewing really well so I think that influences my longer list of things to avoid.

Troublesome things:
Eggs. They don't get stuck, but they provide me with wonderful amounts of nausea, which is new since being banded.
Pills. Even if it's a pill that I could previously take on an empty stomach, I now have to take it with food, when the moon is rising at 45 degrees, on the 9th Saturday of the year, etc, etc, etc. or I become very nauseated and either end up retching it back up, or having to sleep it off.
