i am scheduled to have my band removed friday 2/11/11.  my h&p visit with the doctor is this tuesday 2/8/11.  i know he will tell me all of the ins and outs, but in the mean time, i am coming to you guys with some questions while i await my visit with the doctor.

1 - After I have my band removed on Friday, what type of diet will i be on?  Will i most likely be on liquids?  for how long?  (yes, i know every doctor is different, just looking here for a consensus)

2 - What is the minimum time YOU were out of work.  I want to get back ASAP.  Surgery is on Friday, i want to go back to work by next Wednesday.  i have a desk job, no lifting.   I took full advantage and stayed out 2 weeks for the original surgery.  not up for that now.

thanks-dee

I just wanted to say good luck - I can't answer your questions as I had a revision at the same time and was in the hospital for five days and out of work for a total of three weeks.

Zee just had her band out, no revision so hopefully she will pop in and let you know what it was like.

I was suppose to have the lapband and them Dr. has decided to do the Gastric Plication.  I begin my pre-op diet on the 14 th.  I will have surgery Feb. 28 th. in Montreal Canada.  Less invasive and no fills.   I am pleased with the decision.    Just thought I would pop in and let everyone know where I stand.    Doris  QC.

Doris I dont know that much about plication. I have a big fan of VSG though. I think you will do much better with the pllication than the band.

Hope all goes well with your sugery. Please update us after!

I wasn't on a restricted diet after band removal. I wasn't hungry for quite some time, though, honestly. I think my stomach had shrunk a LOT. (Don't count on it staying that way, though, lemme tell ya.)

I work from home as an artist, so I can't really say how much time it took. BUT, I do remember feeling pretty darned good within 3 days or so. I didn't experience any gas pains or anything like that after removal, for some reason.

Good luck to you, Dee. I hope it all goes well.  You aren't doing a revision surgery, I assume?

Nicci, thank you so much for this info.  unfortunately, there will be no revision.  my insurance is "one per lifetime."  i can't even get a new band put it while he is already in there.  :(
mentally, i am better than i was on the 26th when he told me.  but still, i am HIGHLY disappointed.  i still have a good 40-50 pounds that need to come off!
i will let you know  how it goes.  good to know the gas was not as bad for you during the removal.  that was the worst part of the whole experience for me when i had my surgery.  i was really dreading that!

take care!

I'm so sorry to hear this bad news. It seems so unfair!

I know how it feels. I had mine removed 5 years ago and it took a long time to feel like I could pick up the pieces and continue on.  I have to be totally honest, though. I had diaphragmatic damage and it caused nonstop left shoulder pain. When the band came out, the pain dissipated. So, I might not have noticed if I had left shoulder pain from the gas after surgery. The pain was so much less intense, that's all I know!

I wish you the best. Let me know if you need to talk at any time, OK?

This is my first surgery,  I was suppose to have lap band and then it was decided that since I live 4 1/2 hrs. away thE  plication was less invasive and no fills so it would be better for me. and of course my age as well.   Doris  QC.

Very sorry to hear you are losing your band.

Can I ask, was yoru surgeon good? A good, safe, in place band, seems VERY dependant on the quality of the surgeon.

I'm sorry you've had such horrible side effects.

I wish you nothing but the BEST with yoru weight going forward!
