Barrett's esophagus

Surgery has been postponed because I had to be seen by a specialist for possible Barrett's.
Barrett's esophagus is a condition in which the color and composition of the cells lining your lower esophagus change, usually because of repeated exposure to stomach acid.

Barrett's esophagus is most often diagnosed in people who have long-term gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) -- a chronic regurgitation of acid from the stomach into the lower esophagus. Only a small percentage of people with GERD will develop Barrett's esophagus. Information from the Mayo Clinic!
Biopics were taken yesterday and I have a follow up with the specialist in March.

I am so sorry. But at least this has been diagnosed and so your docs can start to treat you if that proves to be necessary.

I think one of our regular posters WasaBubbleButt has this - might be wrong - it could just be that she knows a lot about it. She may well chip in to tell you her story. If not, i believe she is very helpful to people who PM her.

Does it mean no wls ever?

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

So sorry your surgery had to be postponed. I suffer from GERD.  I am now being tested for h.pylori.
What brought them to your diagnoises?  I might need to have the scope go down my throat.  Is that how they found out what you have?  I hope you are well soon.

Sorry also that your surgery has been postponed... but it is a good thing this has been discovered pre-band. I would listen to your surgeons advice on whether or not the Lap Band will still be a good choice for you with this new diagnosis.

Keep up updated!

it is really good that they found this now before surgery.  The band can make barretts esophagus worse.  Does your insurance cover the sleeve or other WLS?  I would do some more research
