Yes and all weightloss surgeries have risks and possible complications....Everyone should know what they could be signing up for. Sorry you had a bad experience....best of luck with your new wls...and thanks for sharing your opinion!

positive despite title!

This thread comes up every couple of dasy so look back over old threads. Here are a coupel of psotive threads to keep you going.

There are two or three very evangelic anti-band people who have probably chimed in on here (don't know as either I have them blocked or they have me blocked) - listen to them! But also listen to the many happy bandsters.

Like me- at 4 3/4 years out.    Kate

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

The band has been the safest and most effective surgery for ME, you need to read the complication forum, the memorial boards and RNY board too, if you read these boards they are more truthful and really get a glimpse on what other invasive surgeries will do to you long term -- some boards are even private, one of my friends who were considering the DS went to a private board where they discuss living with the DS and she said it was horrifying they make it appear that it is bells and roses on this site and their way of eating is too good to be true and it IS, the band bashing is more bitterness of losing their bands from being too tight and having a poor aftercare.

It' all about choice with the band, if you have a great surgeon and great aftercare your life with the band will be a breeze. I am still pleased with my surgery and results, I am wearing a size 6-8 with no complications so far and living a very happy life.

I love my band but I'm only two months out so I dont have alot of experience with it yet so I can just talk about what my last two months have been like.

In the two months I have lost 34 pounds and I just got on the scales this morning and lost another pound so I'm down 35 as of right now .  I started off at 348 and I'm down to 313 :o)

I lost 4 pounds this week !! So in my mind I have it set that I might not lose any weight next week since I dropped so much this week and that is okay with me .

The band you have to play mind games also and I'm becoming the master of it to help me in my progress.

I know one cup of food is I'm all allowed to have so I have my mind set to that ,  sure I can eat more but why ? Why take the risk of doing harm to me or the band.

I can go anywhere from 3-5 hrs of not being hungry . That is physical hunger not head hunger.  Head hunger is a ***** and I fight it every day , every day though it gets a little easier and easier but I know I will always have to fight it.

Like I said I am two months post op and I have not had a single fill yet in my band, its the empty the day the doc put it in me and I'm very very proud of that :o)

As long as I'm losing my 8 pounds per month and staying full for a good 3 hrs at a time I will never go get a fill .  Me personally I dont want to play the fill and unfill game .

Maybe the band alone is enough for me , maybe I got the band I'm playing a major mental game right now who knows but all I know is its working so why change something that is working :o)

Good luck with whatever you want to do.  The main goal is just to get healthy now matter what surgery you have :o)

Renee really doesn't have a clue what she is talking about. She's a whole 9 days post op.

I'll wait for her to show up on the sleeve board in a couple of years whining about being a poster girl for the band and it didn't work just like 88% (band maker stats) of every other banded person. Then she'll also be whining that her ins co only covers 1 WLS per lifetime and she'll be trying to figure out how to revise to another surgery type.

I had a primo surgeon, I was the band poster girl, I did everything right, and I got to goal in spite of the damn band, not because of it.

And make no mistake, "misty" is just another incarnation of NaBlowMe (Naomi, Nana, and all her other gazillion IDs). She gets her rocks off watching others fail. Any clue how long it took HER to get to goal? YEARS! Far more than a normal person. She's still fat but settles for what she has.

Statistically speaking the band most certainly is NOT the safest surgery type long term, just more horse**** she's blowing out her big fat pie hole.

The majority of the people that are happy with their band are newbies. Give them time to live with it, then they sing a new tune.

People who do not research get bands. Well informed people *****search all their options don't get bands.

The band got me to goal, the sleeve will keep me there.
