Amazing!  Looking at your pics, I would never guess you were ever overweight, let alone 200 pounds worth.  It's actually kind of good to hear from folks like you and Melly above who did suffer a complication that required another surgery, yet you got past it, and continued to use your tool.

I'll respond on both boards since I have had both surgeries and I'm over 4 years post op:

When did you have your surgery? 12/6/06

Was it your first wls, or revision? First

How much weight did you want to lose? 100#

How much did you lose after the first year? 132#

Did you reach goal? Goal and weight I did not want to lose.

Have you regained weight? If so, how much, and did you take it back off? Yes, but it was intentional.

Have you had any nutritional deficiencies, and how did you handle it? Severe malnutrition that took about six months to recover after having the band removed. Permanent damage to my teeth from all the vomiting, permanent esophageal damage all due to the band.

Quite frankly, the sleeve is far more effective, better weight loss, safer long term, and cheaper in the end.

Previously Midwesterngirl

The band got me to goal, the sleeve will keep me there.

Thanks for your response.  I'm not getting much response on the VSG board :-(

Sorry for your bad experience, and glad you were able to move on and get healthy.

Thanks for your response.  One question, what is "unclip" refer to?  I've heard of a slip, but not unclip.

Best wishes for that little one, and reaching your weight loss goals after wards.

It is rare, the band when placed is cliped into place. Well mine became unclipped, I think the doctor when he went in to fix my slip did not clip it correctly or at all. I changed doctors after that!

  01|17|08 (3 years)

Was it your first wls, or revision?
  First WLS

How much weight did you want to lose?
  214 lbs

How much did you lose after the first year?
  100 lbs within 16 months

Did you reach goal?
not yet, had a complication (port leak) that I just got fixed last week

Have you regained weight?  If so, how much, and did you take it back off?
yes, I regained 60 lbs during 2010 because of port leak and non-compliance on my part. I have taken approx 8 back off (just re-starting my journey with a repaired band)

Have you had any nutritional deficiencies, and how did you handle it?
no... but I did find it difficult and frustrating to eat some healthy foods like meat, lettuce, broccoli, etc

Hi,

I can answer for both sleeve and band:

When did you have your surgery?

June 2003 for band and march 2008 for sleeve

Was it your first wls, or revision?
Revision from band to sleeve

How much weight did you want to lose?
160 lbs

How much did you lose after the first year?

120 pounds with band and 75 with the sleeve and goal.

Did you reach goal?

Yes with band, then regained back to 242 and then sleeve

Have you regained weight? If so, how much, and did you take it back off?

Yes with band due to slip and regained 62 pounds. I gained 10 lbs back with sleeve but have been maintaining within 10 lbs of my lowest weight with sleeve for the last 15 months.

Have you had any nutritional deficiencies, and how did you handle it? None with band but I have iron deficiency anemia and low d with sleeve. Then I found out its not the sleeve but a gastrobleed caused by crohns

The sleeve rocks!! No regrets but I did have regrets with the band after 5 years of slippage, dilation and achalasia of the esophagus.

When did you have your surgery?
May 2006

Was it your first wls, or revision?
1st

How much weight did you want to lose?
80lbs

How much did you lose after the first year?
about 85lbs (can't remember exactly)

Did you reach goal?
went 45lbs BELOW goal

Have you regained weight?  If so, how much, and did you take it back off?
once - my own fault! 27lbs.  Lost it all ( bar 2lbs) again in 8 weeks

Have you had any nutritional deficiencies, and how did you handle it?
No. Eat a totally normal diet.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
