psych appt scheduled, ..help
From what I got out of it. Well what she told me is the main purpose is to be sure you are totally aware of all the complications, your job and the things you need to do to make this work and you completely understand the whole picture, OK got it.
Main thing just relax and study. My NUT told me afterward I would definitely benefit from seeing a Doc of Psych. Well who couldn't?

Well I went back today for the results from my psych eval. The 1st appt was with his nurse or what ever she is called. She asked the questions. They were really general questions. Why do I want the surgery, what have I done before this to lose weight. Do I have people to support me in this, Do I get depressed and how do I handle it etc. She was really nice and I was in there 1 1/2 hrs and it flew by. Then today I saw the dr all of about 15 minutes. He asked about 2 questions, said he thought I would be a good canadiate for the surgery and that was it. I got a call from the weight dr saying that they received the fax and now its ready to go to the insurance. The one they they are concerened about is that I didnt have 5 years of Dr supervised weight loss records. I told them I have every weight loss book on the market LOL. So now its a waiting game.
But honest dont let it worry you

Is one disqualified for band surgery if they are taking an anti-depressant ? It's a fact that anti-depressants are the number one drug prescribed in this country. So there must be lap band candidates that are on anti-depressants that are getting the surgery.
I am very cautious of using the term crazy because, if you say that then your saying the majority of people in our country are crazy.
I would look at your apt. with the psych like this: They are verifying with you that surgery is the best option for you. It's nothing different than meeting with your lap band surgeon.

Why would you be disqualified for taking an antidepressant?
The psych evaluation is to gage your understanding of what the surgery entails and if you are ready to make the committment to it..
It is not to really see if you are 'crazy'.... Because honestly, someone with a legit psychiatric illness could also be totally ready for lapband surgery....

As a counselor I can tell you that if you are concerned about what they are going to ask you then you probably don't have anything to worry about. People who are truly not ready for surgery most likely do not think about what others think about their behavioral issues, thinking patterns, etc because they think they are normal. Some of the most bizarre people I have met in my personal life have never once considered that they are anything other than "normal".
Wrong answers would be things like "I think the band is a miracle device that will solve all my problems" and "Once I am thin I will have a great life."
