Surgery was worse than I expected:(
Oh sweetie, I know. I had a MUCH worse time than I expected too. Luckily I haven't had any gas pains at all (knock on wood) but I ended up having to go back in on Saturday evening and have 2 ccs taken out of my band because I was COMPLETELY blocked. With the swelling from the surgery and the fill in th eband, everytime I hit about 3 sips of liquid, it all came back up.
And bless your heart with the hernia surgery as well, Renee, I'm so sorry. Hang in there though, you WILL start to feel better. I know we heard it over and over again but I have to agree, the more I was able to get up and move around, the better I felt. Nothing huge but just walking to the mailbox, walking around the house, taking the dogs out to pee. On Sunday I was able to go to the library and then a quick Wal-Mart trip although once I got home from those I was pretty much down for the count for the rest of the day.
The gas left the same horrible taste in my mouth and I found that drinking water made it SO much worse. Are you allowed to have diluted juice? I love the Healthy Balance Apple Juice and it was the first thing that finally tackled that gas taste. Not even brushing my teeth would get rid of it but somehow that apple juice did.
I also found that the straighter I was able to sit up when I was sitting made me a LOT more comfortable. We have the FABULOUS wonderful huge squishy couch that I adore and it's like having a bed int he living room. But getting in and out of the couch was just excruciating. I found that sitting in a chair that had me sitting up much straighter was so much more comfortable, not to mention easier to get up and down. Even at night, I've found that sleeping is a lot more comfortable if I just build a little bit of a wedge with my pillows so I'm kind of at a 45 degree angle. Things like that have made me so much more comfortable this past weekend.
As for drinking, I've found that hot things go down MUCH smoother. Hot tea and strained won ton soup have been my staples. Today I'm adding the Unjury chicken broth so that I can get a little more protein in. Good luck Renee! I promise that it WILL get better!!

oh, this might help you if you are having troubles burping. It certainly helped me.
In order to avoid taking in extra air you obviously don't need right now. Practice this. When you take a sip, before you swallow whats in your mouth, breath out all the air in you out your nose and then swallow your liquids. This will limit your intake of air and hopefully cut down on the need to burp.
Good Luck!
