This has turned in to an absolute ****storm of a post. Nobody is getting any useful information here whatsoever! Some here probably do blame you for whatever is going on with your band, but honestly from my perspective in following these god awful argumentative posts, it is somewhat confusing following your problem. Some statements almost seem somewhat contradictory.
I don't blame you whatsoever- we just have a piece of plastic strapped to our stomachs, it's not really a long shot to see that there might or will be some complications. Nonetheless, I would really like to figure out what's going on here. I think it's a disservice to you to go through all that and not know what's wrong. And frankly, even if you'd lost 500 pounds and didn't have any complications, you're still entitled to hate your band.
So, here are my questions and hopefully you'll answer them for me!
1) It seems that we're all going in circles over your phrase "I have no restriction." I think this is mainly where I'm confused. Is LuciousLA right in the respect that you maybe aren't using the right terms for the issue here?
One time you say that you have trouble eating bread and pasta and that you must chew dense protein well otherwise you could get stuck. Then you told me that you could eat well over 2 cups? Is it that you do have some sort of restriction yet it's very variable? That some days you can eat a lot and some days you can't eat anything? (This is very much so the case for me- any sort of restriction for me really depends on hydration level, the damn weather, my stress level, the time in my cycle...! Ahhh! ) And, at least for me, there wasn't an actual fill level where it bam! was all of a sudden perfect. I feel like reading between the lines of your words makes me feel like you're looking for one special point where it's perfect and not going to change and all of a sudden it'll just work. I don't think that's the case, but in some respects that's what it almost sounds like. Personally, the "sweet spot" seems like a mythological entity that doesn't really exist. Maybe that's just me.
1.5) What's a normal day's meal look like for you?
2) You've had 13 fills, which absolutely seems like a lot! Basically one fill every single month plus one more? Did you have any sort of restrictive feeling at all after any of your fills and it decreased as you lost weight or has it stayed the same and never changed whatsoever after any fills through the year? I know you said your surgeon checked for leaks and you didn't have one.
3) Did you have a barium swallow or fill under fluoroscope to see how liquid passes through the stoma? If so, what did your surgeon say? You don't remember how much is in your band (not that it even matters, if you have some sort of restriction), but what if the situation is that your doctor gave you 13 fills of 0.5ccs bringing you to 6.5ccs out of 11ccs total? Meaning you'd only be half full. I'd hate to see a doctor be that damn conservative, but has that been ruled out yet? Again, this still sucks, but maybe your band just isn't adjusted correctly yet.
4) Perhaps your band is legitimately broken and no matter how it's adjusted, it's just not gonna work- which statistics show totally happens. It's a manmade piece of plastic, for crying out loud! In that case, cut your losses and get the sucker out!
You seem like a very up-front sort of lady, so I hope that you went or will go to your surgeon and demand to get to the absolute bottom of this and somewhat work with what you've got (you have lost some weight, so that's something!) while you wait and figure out what your next step is. You paid quite a lot of money and regardless if some people think you did "well enough," it's really only your opinion that matters. It sounds like you have worked your ass off and then some and you deserve to be happy!
Take care and good luck!
Allison R brings up some really important questions.
As someone going into this procedure ( as soon as medically possible) because it is the ONLY WLS option available to me for medical reasons (similar to Guernica, I have also just started a round of prednisone again so Hugs Guernica).
It would be great if you could address Allisons questions so those of us just starting out on this journey would be better able to navigate the stormy seas.
Specifically -
Have you called your surgeons office and found out what your current fill level is?
How do you know there is nothing wrong with your band if you have had no fills done under flouoro?
What is a typical meal/day of eating for you?
What is your typical exercise routine?
Please explain the restriction you have and how it varies- ie: day to day, meal to meal, food vs food etc.
I have no idea what the difference between restriction and sweet spot is, can you define it for me (I don't have a band yet)
Can you let me know what you were expecting out of the band? I want to make sure I don't go into this with any false preconceptions.
Also since you do not have the money to get a revision right now, what are your plans?
(If I were in your place I would be jumping down my surgeons throat right now if he basically took my money and ran with not a concern for my issues, man I would be PISSED!)
Thanks Maria,
Good luck to you with whatever you decide is best for you.
There is something wrong with it. The port has flipped.
Typical day eating..............Varies greatly!
Typical days exercise............walking
Minimal restriction early in the day. Also have to be careful with some food items. After a few hrs. could eat anything n everything!
Sweet spot is what u should obtain with the band after a few fills. At this point there is restriction and u will fill up faster.
I expected the band to work! Simple as that! It has not! I did NOT pay $15,000 to STARVE myself to lose weight!!!
When I can afford it I will revise, till then............nothing to do............I give up! I have wasted too much time, effort, n money in this piece of ****!!!
As far as the origional Dr. he was a band mill employee. The band mill closed down 6 wks. after taking my money. The new owners were suppose to honor their contract but some of the office staff was just horrible!!! They were then suppose to cover my fills with another Dr. which they quit doing. So I was completely scammed by True Results (Which is still operating in TX and AZ)!
I think that about covers it!
Hi EAH!
Hugs, girly. The prednisone sucks, but my vasculitis is active again so it's prednisone and the strong chemo again. I'm so not looking forward to that, but it is what it is.
Stay strong and get through this prednisone round. The band will help you lose. It may not be 100 pounds in a year, but hell, 50 is good right? Then another 50 the second year :) We can do this!!!

Maria,
I am responding because I know post like this are frustrating. I had wierd problems with the band that led to a revision but the band does work for some people.
Some people start feeling restriction at 1-2 months. THis means that they may eat less but not as small amount as doctor wants you to eat. Example my surgeon only wanted us to eat 1/2 cup of food to 2/3 cup of food and it last 4-5 hours. At sweet spot you should be able to eat a small amount of dense protien, 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of vegetables and be satisfied, not full and this be able to last you for several hours before you get hungry.
Please remember it can take 6 months or more to get restriction or sweet spot. Some people get fills after fills and never even have any feelings that the band is in there.
Some people do great with the band. If you are a volume eater it will help with the volume of food you eat. You have to make the right choices.
That being said I do wish you good luck with the band. As you are going thru the process with the band I would suggest you go on Amazon.com and order some books. I like Dr. Sewells books, Jeans bandwagon book should be good also.

You know what? If I spent a bunch of money on something that wasn't working and I knew deep down in my heart and soul it wasn't working despite the opinions of others I'd be good and pissed off, too. It just adds insult to injury and for that, first and foremost, I really feel for you. And I personally think you (mostly) successfully walk a fine line between support and letting people know your story. I think you absolutely *do* know this works for some people and that it didn't (hasn't?) worked for you and you seem to be pretty clear on that. I know it's hard to even absorb considering the money you sincerely believe you've wasted, but a revision will most likely be your only relief.
I'm firmly in the camp of wondering why other people care what we do with our bodies. Honest to God, the WLS wars I find to be ridiculous. In my work circle there's me, an RNY grad and a sleeve grad and we all discuss stuff regularly. Each of us wants some of the things the others have, and not want others. Nothing is perfect. Why we do this "mine is better than yours" here escapes me.
I'm also a believer that knowledge is power. So in combining the two, people absolutely should read your thoughts and experiences and take them into account during their decision making process. Sometimes I'm blown away when reading the things on ALL boards people aren't told by their surgeons, so if they gain some info from you that causes them to pause for a bit, fantastic. Lives change with these surgeries.
Seven months out, I love my band. Am I aware I might not always? Sure. Did I know that going in? Sure. But if people's eyes are wide open with everything, including your story, then something good has come out of your bad. I wi**** wasn't that way for you, but unfortunately it is. Hang in there. I'll hope for a quick revision for you.
(and I only said "mostly" because I really, really hate the name calling and "fuck you" and stuff. It's really counter-productive. Not that you called anyone names, but dropping the "F bomb" just takes away from what your message is...)

Oh I'll b the first one to admit I was wrong for saying that. I have no problem admitting my faults! And beleive me................I HAVE MANY!!! Lol. Besides that I said some other tacky things on this thread. Was that wrong also? Yes. However I never initiated the attacks. I struck back when I was attacked! Again...........was that right? No. However I am human and I do have my llimits!
U know as far as the surgery wars, on the other forums they don't fight amongst theirselves like on the band forum. They may fight with others about the prefered WLS, BUT THEY DON'T ATTACK THEIR OWN! Very different enviroment here!!! Lol.
I am glad u are doing well with your band and I genuinely hope that continues!!! But should it not.......this is one reason I post my experiences on here is b/c I want others to know that they r NOT alone in their band issues!!! No one should b attacked for posting band problems on here!
This forum often reminds me of some (and again.......I said SOME) fanatical "Christians" that think if u don't beleive everything they tell u to beleive that u are WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!! So sad!
But despite the many faults of some members on here OH can b a wonderful resource! I hope u find much support and inspiration on here as u make your way with the band.
Again...........Hope it turns out the way u want!!!

HI,
I had a band for 5 years and had it revised to a sleeve due to chronic problems with my band. I had a revision to the VSG 2.8 years ago. However, before my problems I had great success with the band.
I understand your frustrations but based on your own comments, I feel that you have not done enough to advocate for yourself. I would have jumped ship with your surgeon and his practice a long time ago.
Just some observations:
It doesnt sound like the band is your problem. You admitted that your surgeon dissapeared and the remaining idiots taking care of you have been less then stellar. 13 fills and unfills? This is insanity.
Find another filling station sista...
Regarding a sweet spot and restriction, it sounds like you have some. I could easily eat 1-2 cups of food depending on texture, so although the manufacturers talk about 1/2 cup of food, it would really depend on what you were eating. It sounds like solid protein is restrictive for you. How fast can you eat 2 cups of food? What is the texture of this food? If its a cup of chili, I would say that most bandsters could easily get that down. If its 16 ounces of steak in ten minutes, then you have NO restriction.
I understand your frustration, but I would go to another practice since this really seems to be the issue and not your band. A flipped port is an outpatient procedure and an easy fix. If you have not ever had flouroscopy and a barium swallow, I dont see how you could say that your band is the culprit.
just saying...
