yup   digestive issues are part of it and don't necessarily start right away.  make sure you eat a lot of fiber and possibly take a supplement.  regularity will help heartburn.  at least it did in my case

the only time I get heart burn is when I drink Orange Juice and eat potato chips.  Weird, but keeps me away from those little devils.  and I get it Imediately after the first bite.

I had a hiatal hernia repaired when my band was placed and i've only had reflux 2 times in 18 months.  Both times were from irritating my band.  Many things can cause this, but often, if you take ibuprophen or other meds and they dissolve in your pouch or esophogus instead of your stomach or eat acidic foods like citrus, tomato sauce based foods, chocolate, coffee, spicy foods, etc. it will cause inflamation/heartburn.

Reflux and heartburn can cause serious damage and should not be ignored.  My doctor told me to take otc Prilosec for 5 daysand it worked great!  If it's not better call your surgeon.  Gerd/heartburn/reflux can be a sign of a band slip so don't ignore it if it lasts more than a few days.

Take care and in the meantime stick to bland, soft foods. You should feel better soon.

I have always have had heartburn as of right now it doesn't have anything to do with the band. I am planning to see the surgeon in Sept to get it check out once again.
I am also 13 months out

If you are someone who did not previously suffer from heartburn, then this needs checking out. The band should not cause heartburn.

I am sure you know that heartburn is a sign of reflux, even if we are not aware of the reflux itself and the burning is the stomach acids coming into contact with parts of the body not designed to encounter them. So it can cause long term damage.

It can also be a symptom of a problem, often of a band being too tight.

Try the usual things of avoiding spicy foods, caffeine etc. If it persists, get it checked out. The band should never cause heartburn.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

I agree with Kate. If this hearburn hasn't been an issue in the past, I'd get on the phone tomorrow. It can certainly be a symptom of a dozen different things.

For me, I got heartburn at, oh... 18 months out?   I was a tad too tight and lived on tums and pretzels for a few days before I called. The slight unfill did the trick. but who knows. This might not be your situation.

BTW- Pretzels are made of the same sodium bicarbonate that are found in most antacids.
