One-on-one counseling with a psychologists helped me a ton in a relatively short period (3 or 4 months).  The support groups were kind of boring, but one-on-one counseling taught me about how to manage the food addiction.  I certainly haven't been perfect, but at least I know how to do things right thanks to addiction-oriented therapy and pick myself up if I screw up.  Cognitive Behavioral Therapy also helped; the therapist sort of mixed the two.

In your shoes, I'd give therapy a try.
