64 fills and a few unfills in 5 years - Is this excessive?
on 8/9/10 8:18 pm - ~Somewhere in~, PA
I am pretty sensitve to big fills too, my fills have been pretty conservatie too, my problem is they never ever last, I would always have to go back IF I WANTED TO CONTINUE TO LOSE WEIGHT and get more fill becasue the restriction never last more than a few months, I've NEVER had restriction to last more than 6 months during my journey...NEVER...you are very lucky.
Whatever happened to Super Bandster Naomi? The super confident expert on everything, who used to brag about how great she and her band are? This is the first time in the 2-1/2 years I've known you that you've breathed a word about excessive fills, no restriction, or any other band problems. Now suddenly you post a question designed to strike fear into the heart of every newbie bandster. Wouldn't it be more appropriate, and more helpful to you, to post this question on the Band Grads forum where there are enough veterans to give you useful feedback? Or are you still not allowed to join that forum because of your documented history of inflammatory and/or sexually explicit posts?
I'm not convinced you counted those fills correctly unless you've switched from the computer field to medical records, but let's say you did. Why is 64 fills "ugly? Are you sure that 64 isn't the total of fill and unfills you've had? Have you suffered significant pain, mental anguish, or disability as the result of your band adjustments? When you were banded, did your surgeon tell you, "We'll be giving you 10 adjustments in the next 50 years and we absolutely guarantee that you'll have no problems and that you'll lose 100% of your weight and keep it off forever"? Didn't you have to sign a release form that acknowledged you'd been advised of all the risks and complications associated with surgery and the band?
I realize that I sound supremely unsympathetic. I guess I haven't yet gotten over your incredibly ignorant and homophobic suggestion that using a dead predecessor's computer would give you AIDs, and it's because of your apparently sincere belief that such a thing could happen that I find it so hard to believe that you're able to read and interpret your medical records.
Also, it would be interesting to know why you requested those medical records in the first place. Are you indeed researching a law suit against your surgeon and/or Allergan? If so, I have to tell you that their attorneys and/or their investigators will easily discover your OH history and find it puzzling that the Starry Eyed Girl Bandster has morphed into a Band Basher.
Or wait! Wait, wait, wait! Maybe MWG went to Virginia, stole your laptop, and is posting under your OH identity! Of course, why didn't I think of that sooner?

Not sure what your motives are to try to attack me when I am under distress, why are you attacking me when I asking others how many fills they've had? You are a very very mean woman at your age I would think that catty jealous tendency would have tappered off....or do you feel that my problem is taking away from your book deals.. YOU ARE A VERY SICK WOMAN.
Regarding the grad band forum Jean Jean Jean, that forum is SO boring it put me to sleep, and yes there are many women here just like you that do not like me, but many do, regarding sexually explicit post…Oh I used to do that to aggravate my jealous haters and those did not like me, I am a lot smarter than you think! I just may start them back up just to aggravate my haters. Is that why you are sneakily mentioning my name in my post? Don’t want to burst your bubble, but HIPPA requires doctors to give patients their medical records and I got mine with no cost and everything I have said in my post I can BACK UP! with documentation and weight loss results. How does questioning my saline turn me into a band basher? If was a band basher like SO many these days, I would say it does not work or say negative things about, I am still a band advocate….just because I reported having 64 fills and saline leaking does not suggest I am band basher, but again you are from Tennessee and may have difficulty interpreting things. ,, I LOVE my band, as stated in my signature I KNOW what it is capable of doing when it works properly but it is not working properly this is why I am changing surgeons to get to the bottom of why I can’t keep restriction, is there a problem with that? I never mentioned that I was filing a lawsuit, if I find that my old surgeons office deliberately scammed me, I may look at my options at that point.
JEAN I DID NOT KNOW YOU WERE THIS DUMB AND MEAN SPIRITED....when you transfer to a NEW surgeons office, they DO request your medical history so they can know how to treat you properly, but again you are evil and you don't care, you just think I am out for money, I am software engineer and I don't have to find ways of stealing money UNLIKE YOU stealing money from new bandsters, my support here IS SINCERE, I don't have to charge people to give support and MOST of your support is not even accurate, I just want my band to work for me, just read back over what you wrote, you sound like you are mentally disturbed, I am not going to answer your ridiculous claims. you need to get a life.
1. As you may have gathered from my other responses to this thread, "Nana" has a long, colorful history here on OH, characterized by inflammatory posts and attention-getting stunts. Responding to her latest stunt with sympathy and legal suggestions is like shouting "Oh no! And here I am without my umbrella!" as Chicken Little runs by shrieking, "The sky is falling! The sky is falling!"
2. Allergan includes nothing in their surgeon band adjustment guide that specifies the correct number of fills or unfills for a Lap-Band patient. Why? Because there is no correct number. And since Allergan does not tell surgeons how often to do adjustments or how much saline (other than suggested ranges) to use each time, it's mighty hard to prove that "Nana's" excessive fills are Allergan's fault.
3. If I can possibly manage to suspend my disbelief of "Nana's" post for a few moments and believe that she has indeed had 64 adjustments in 5 years, my next thought is: "So what?" If she has suffered no pain, injury, disability, otherwise substandard treatment, or financial hardship as a result of those adjustments, the number 64 is merely a curiosity.
4. I think I've said this here on OH before, but I will repeat: FIGURES CAN LIE, AND LIARS CAN FIGURE. Now I'd like to play my own Number Game. It goes like this: In 2-1/2 years, I've had 21 adjustments. Let's assume that the next 2-1/2 years are the same as the last. In 5 years, I will have had 42 adjustments. (I didn't have to request my medical records to find that out because I'm a responsible adult and I've been keeping track of it all along.) Wow, 42!!! That's a big, scary number! Not as scary as "Nana's" number, but golly gee, something must be wrong! Why didn't my surgeon get my band adjusted right the first time? One stick, I'm good to go for the rest of my life. No aftercare needed, that sounds right, doesn't it? So maybe I should sue both of my surgeons, every member of their medical staffs, both hospitals and all their medical staffs, to say nothing of Allergan! What do you think? Please, don't be logical. Logic has no place in the Number Game. Ignore the fact that I've suffered no infections, band leaks, or other medical consequences (other than weight loss) from being jabbed that many times. Ignore my band slip which was caused by my hiatal hernia, which lives a good 10" north of my port. Ignore the facts that I'm healthier now than ever before in my life, that I'm able to work, take care of myself and my home and my family, that I put no burden on our health care system, and in fact am a far more productive member of society than I was pre-band. No, no, get that logical stuff right out of your head.
5. It's entirely possible that some surgeons perform an unnecessary number of fills because their fill philosophy is conservative and/or they're trying to increase their incomes through many infintesimal fills. If you feel that you've been receiving too many band adjustments, who do you think is best qualified to respond to that? This is a multiple choice question. Your choices are:
a) my surgeon
b) my surgeon
c) my surgeon
d) Ayatollah Khomeini
e) Clarence Darrow
f) my surgeon
OK, class dismissed. Your teacher is feeling an overwhelming urge to lie down and take a nap until "Nana" finds another man who can keep her so busy in the bedroom she won't be tempted to play Camille here at the OH Evening Theater.

Ok this is the last time am going to respond to this:
Jean, I had no idea what the history is or was. I just had an idea of what I thought
you were like. I respect you then and now. Its ok not to agree. I just wanted you to
step back and look at the situation and restart basically. To someone like me who
had no idea your post was harsh and then the others it was getting bad. All I am
saying I respect your information like so many others. I didn't think you would
respond so harshly, I had no idea.
Please dont take what I am saying to be taking
up for anyone because I dont know either one of you. I just wanted you to see how
this exploded and to see if you saw what I saw, but you couldnt because you were
to involved and connected and I had no idea. I dont think you are a bad person, but
I do feel you went off. THE END.
