64 fills and a few unfills in 5 years - Is this excessive?

While 64 fills in 67 months seems excessive, two complete unfills during that period really is not a lot.  Crap happens, such as being stuck.

On the other hand, the OP is def an AW.

Lisa, wow never knew you were NORMAL, since your main board is Rants and Raves, thanks for your response, I will say this over and over again, the reason why I've had so many fills, saline would leak out and I just wanted answers, I wanted to do a comparison poll, there is nothing AW about that? Is it problem to ask this of others?

Trixie,

I agree, 64 is very excessive, but I had to get that many because I've NEVER had restriction for more than 3 months in 5 years, this is my whole point, again some of the fills were due to illness, and they had to slowly refill my band twice but even that was still excessive, thanks for your feedback.

wow thats EXCESSIVE!!   Im 18 months out and I've only had like 5-6 fills and 1 unfill.  My surgeon doesn't like giving fills every time because he said it can lead to slips.

246 in Dec 2008 before banded 1/28/09 at 215 lbs, band crapped 9/09 at 170 lbs and struggled with it and regained to 203 revised to bypass on 8/1/11 and am very happy.

Cheryl,

It's not fills (in any quantity or frequency) that can lead to band slips.

It's over-filling that can lead to band slips.

Surgeons don't like to give fills at every follow-up visit because (for one thing) doing so may not give the patient enough time to adjust their eating to the previous fill, and that can lead to negative side effects without necessarily improving the patient's weight loss; because WLS patients have a history (proven by their obesity) of poor judgment when it comes to making the best choices to benefit their health; because WLS patients (usually) haven't attended medical school, trained in general surgery, trained in laparoscopic surgery, or trained in bariatric surgery; and because WLS patients who believe that fills are magic may be neglecting the mental or emotional part of their healing from obesity.

Jean who are you to educate people on band slips I know more about the band than you will ever know...I was trying to poll others to see what their average amount is...I KNOW that my fills have been excessive, just because I've gotten many many does not mean I don't know about the band...I've NEVER gotten a fill just because...hell I did not get my first fill until 4 month out...I've NEVER EVER abused my band, I got many fills coz I needed them because the restriction NEVER LASTED...I have seen my surgeon many times with NO FILL.....AND YES I am very very knowledgeable about the more WAY MORE THAN YOU AND YOU GOT THE AUDACITY TO WRITE A BOOK and you are on here attacking me... SOME PROFESSIONAL YOU ARE.....YOU ARE A JOKE.

Cherly, not sure if you clearly understand my post, but I will clarify once again and simply answer  question to your post:

wow that's EXCESSIVE!!   I'm 18 months out and I've only had like 5-6 fills and 1 unfill.  My surgeon doesn't like giving fills every time because he said it can lead to slips.

THE Main reason why I NEEDED to many fills were because they NEVER LASTED, so it would be impossible for me slip my band with little to no restriction, this is why I needed so many because my restriction never lasted for more than a few months consistently even tho I was years out, and I wanted answers to why.....

Nope...NOT YET...even if I have to get band revision which is a NEW option with my new insurance will cover a revision 100 percent, with my new band surgeon...I still love my band, and I faith that all the fills that I got created the problem...many were warrented....if I have a leak that can be quickly fixed, if I have a slip, I will go for a revision, if that does not work  I got back to Weigh****chers...I think I know who this is...and congrats to you on your success!

I may get the third generation band like my finacee is getting...if I can't get a new band, I will not get anything, I will just get it removed..I am not interested in the Sleeve or any other wls, I am sure that my band was manipulated.

Hey Girl!

Don't know how many fills/unfills I had, but I have had many!  Hope you never have to lose your band - I certainly didn't want to.  I didn't want a revision but it is soooo hard maintaining - really hard.

Though it's a new procedure, I'm going to take my chance on this:  http://www.angeleshealth.com/procedures/weight-loss/gastric- sleeve-plication.aspx

Take care,
Leila
