Why do they want you to be evaluated by a psychiatrist? What do they expect for you yo say?

The psychiatrist just wants to know that you understand the details of the procedure and the life changes needed post op. He/she will also ask you about your support system. If you go to www.thebanddoctor.com there is a section on the psychiatric evaluation and what to expect. It really is no big deal.

They want to rule out eating disorders and body dysmorphic issues is my understanding. They also evaluate you for addictive personality which comes into play after you start losing the weight. Some people start drinking, having crazy sex, become shopaholics because they are substituting their previous addiction for new ones. It's called Transfer Addiction.

Become shopaholics??? I already am one! lol!!! But I won't start drinking cause it gives me heartburn. And crazy sex?? Yeah, my husband could only wish. lmao!!!!

Hey now! What's wrong with crazy sex????

Lol!

Seriously though, all my "psych" nurse needed was to make sure I knew what I was getting into, understood the risks, and was willing to comply with the lifestyle changes.

One of the questions was if I hear voices.

I told them no... that's what my voices told me to say.

It was silly really.
You'll be just fine.

I thought the idea was to loose weight so we COULD have crazy sex...right?

My mantra:  Each day is an new opportunity to be happier, healthier and better than the day before.  I will live each day with enthusiam and be thankful for the many blessings that surround me. I will do my best to pay it forward whenever possible

The majority of my questions centered around what my parents told me as a child. For example, was I told to clean my plate? I talked A LOT about my Mom (Dad wasn't really around then...). The other big questions were about my support system and who lives in my house. She was very anxious to hear about what I'm trying to teach my daughter about healthy eating, etc. I was a bit nervous going into it but it was nothing.
