Abdominal Muscle Tear......

Hi!

I posted a couple days ago that I was having major pain by where my port is.....so I went to my surgeon's office.  They think I have an abdominal muscle tear!  Who knows how I got it, but I have been in pain since the surgery and just recently it got a lot worse.  The surgeon said because they "stab you" in 5 different areas through the muscle...this can happen.  Has anyone else had this?? I haven't heard of it before.  So I take meds and wear an abdominal binder and hope it gets better or I have to go back.

Thanks everyone!!

YES, this happened to me but not til yrs after my surgery and most of my abdominal wall seperated from my side and I was bleeding from my belly button and in immense amounts of pain.  I was in hospital for few days and doc upped my protein intake to help muscle heal faster and I was limited on my activity. Who knew a four yr old was strong enough to tear you up internally?? After this happened my port detached also, so now waiting to get that repaired.

I have had pain at the port site too. I hate laying on my stomach, that really hurts. I work, lifting heavy things, so maybe I did what you have said. What is this binder thing? It really hurts if my waistband is near the port, do you have that too? None of my lady friends that have had it done, in my area have had issues like i have had. Thought i was crazy till i read your post. Thanks

Hi Karen - Sorry you are having this pain!!  You can get what is called an "abdominal binder" which can be found in medical supply stores and online.  It has helped me more that I can say!  It keeps everything in place.  If your pain is bad, you may want to get it checked out with your surgeon to be sure.  I was told by my surgeon that if it hurts on the surface (and not deep inside) it can be your nerves that can get "hypersensitive" after surgery.  He said that deep is usually muscle.  So good luck to you and I hope that helps!!  Thanks!  Noelle

Thanks for the info,, about binder. sounds like a, oh what did the women in the olden days wear to keep it all tight......
As far as the pain, I actually had an infection in my port incision. Six wks after surgery. I have just finished the antiobiotic and its is better. the surgeon saw me 3 times over a week because of the infection.
He said, it might be sore from the infection. but it has always been sore, so i dont think it was the infection.
Thanks for your help!
Karen
