Stretched Esophagus Problem

It's very possible that afte your 4 weeks of liquids things will be back to normal.  I assume he emptied your band during this time?  That seems to be standard protocol as the first step to both a dialated pouch and esophogus.  If you haven't been over filling your pouch which can cause food to back up into your esophogus then you've likely been keeping your band too tight.  Ist that possibly why you're choosing slider foods like soups, etc?  Do you have issues eating 3 oz of solid protein?

I'm sorry for your troubles and pray that things have corrected themselves!

Let us know how the next floro looks.

The surgeon couldn't empty the band because I hadn't had a fill yet.  The problem was discovered when I went for my first fill.  I had been losing steadily (about 40 pounds) during the first 5 months and there was nothing in my band. My surgeon doesn't give a fill as long as you are losing 1-2 pounds weekly.  I was still losing through will power.  At the time of the discovery of the dilated esophagus the surgeon actually decided to put 1 cc in the band so I would have some restriction. He doesn't put any saline in the band during surgery so I don't see how the band could be too tight 5 months post surgery and before the first fill.

I really like beans so I liked to make soups with them.  I hadn't been able to eat soups much for 5 years prior to my WLS surgery because of the high sodium level but since I was eating such small portions and some shakes I found that I could have a small amount of soup without too much water retention.  I was enjoying cooking and eating something that I had missed very much in the past 5 years.  I liked the high protein level as well and the fact that I could make them ahead and it was fresh, non processed food that could be quickly heated up. I never had a problem eating 3 oz. meat or chicken or pork.  I ate shrimp and asparagus.  I just liked the Italian sausage soup, chili or lentil soup I was making.better.  Plain chicken was kind of boring so I often made curried chicken salad or ground fresh tuna patties or salmon.  I kind of enjoyed a lot of the food that I cooked in the mushy phase and semi solid phase and I kept them in my diet since I was cooking for one.  Also, the surgeon's protocol extremely gradual - 4 weeks of liquids, then two weeks of mushy, then 2 weeks of semi solid food. By that time the  8 weeks was up I was in no rush to add the list of food that might cause distress.

I don't know yet when the next fluoroscope will be scheduled but I'll report back.
