Remember Sharron Osborne had her band removed and she still is thin today.  Good luck.  Anything is possible and probable in life.

Thank you so much everyone for your kind words of encouragment!!  I didn't come on here to be lectured to or to find out how much knowledge you all have about the lapband.  Just needed to get some great support from some wonderful OHer's!!  Thank you so much to those of you who have done that for me!!  Be BLessed!

Ohh Andrea,

I sooo hate to hear that. Is Dr. Cook removing band??  I am suppose to go see Dr. Cox in July to check mine out again. Only have heart burn occasionally now. Working with dietician in Hickory and last fill has really helped.

Good luck!!

Thanks, Tamara!  I changed my surgeon to one in Wilmington, NC due to the 5 hour drive and tryiing to find a babysitter for my little ones.  I love Dr. Cook and he did everything right.  I just couldn't do that drive to Hickory anymore.  Dr. Cook first discovered the slip, then  and the second surgeon did a barium swallow and saw it too.  Just remember your band rules FOREVER!!!  It's never ok to eat fast, take big bites, etc...and NEVER force just one more bite in because it tastes soooo good..  These things lead to problems with your band!!    Make sure you keep an eye on that heart burn!!  I"ll be fine!  Taking things one day at a time.  Be blessed!!

I'm really so  sorry to hear this - but this is exactly why a yearly routine fluoro is so important. MANY problems are found before symptoms occur, and often while they still can be fixed fairly easily.

However, it's pretty unusual to have such a serious problem with NO symptoms at all. I don't know of ANY cases in more than 7 years of my banding experience  where there was a "major slip" but absolutely no symptoms. I'd urge you to get a second opinion, since you're not having a bit of trouble. It may be entirely possible , with a highly-skilled surgeon, to simply re-position ore entirely replace the band in the same surgery.

Don't give up quite yet - you have not really looked at all possible options. You may even want email Dr. Curry here about your situation. (Find his thread at the top of the page here) Scan or email him a copy of your BA swallow also, and see what he thinks.

There are also surely other band docs near you to consult in person. It's your right and - really - obligation to yourself to do this before you accept band-removal surgery in a situation that is not urgent.

Good luck - sure hope things end up OK for you.

My insurance co has only approved 2 surgeons in NC for bariatric surgery and I"ve been to them both.  One is 5 hours away from me.  Insur. will only pay for REMOVAL.  We have tried other options and they did not approve.
