Pain in left shoulder after eating??
Hey Harleychick, if I ate too fast or too much I had pain in my left shoulder (within the first 6 mths of getting banded) so I learned to slow down and watch the signs my band was giving me. Then, after 6 or 8 months I'd get that pain...followed by pain under my right breastbone that would keep me up at night and just be a...pain. In Jan it was so bad I went to the ER...long story short I had my gallbladder out one week ago and the pain is gone. I'm not saying it is your gallbladder but if you get that pain and go lay on a heating pad and it subsides you might need to watch for the signs it might be your gallbladder and that pain is in your back and not just your arm. That's how I found out it was my gallbladder and not food or eating too fast.
Good Luck, and I hope it's just gas : )

Pressure on the diaphragm, caused by an overfull stomach or by gas, can cause referred pain as the nerve system which serves the diaphragm also serves the left shoulder area.
If I get this, i have already eaten too much!

Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
I posted a similar post a few weeks ago. I don't have my gallbladder, so I know the pain is not that. I get sharp pain in my left shoulder/chest when I eat too much or too fast. I'm 2 months post op. It has subsided as I am learning to stop eating before I get the pain, which is hard as that was soemtimes my signal that I was full. I'm still getting the hang of it. I eat smaller amounts but more frequently.
Someone replied (and it made sense to me) that by either eating too much or too fast and causign gas (thereby stretching the pouch) puts pressure on the diaphram and some of the nerves can radiate pain up to the shoulder.
I also had this pain after my gallbladder was removed, when there was still gas left in my abdomen from the laproscopic procedure. So it makes sense that it is pressure on the diaphram.
Hope this helps. At least I am physically not able to overeat without extreme pain!!! One of my past bad habits.
EDIT: wow Kate, you said that so well and to the point :) What she said!!!!
