I'll tell you. That portion would have to be taken out and then NO STOMACH LEFT! So, although I think the sleeve is a great option for some, I have to tell you you are wrong saying it is the safest. EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. WHY CAN'T SURGERY HATERS UNDERSTAND THAT? I know you had bad luck with the band and that sucks, but if I had listened to you I would have a little stomach that would really hurt me down the line. Also, many many insurance companies DO NOT cover the sleeve yet.
STOP SAYING ONE SURGERY IS BETTER OVERALL! God, some of you don't stop and think of the ramifications of your words. Simply state WHY you like or don't like something. Jeeeezus--is it THAT hard?

Oh for goodness sakes, calm down, you'll get your knickers in a twist.
Like it or not long term the sleeve IS the safest surgery statistically. I can pick out one person for every surgery type and show why ONE person would not do well with a given WLS. But overall the long term risks are indeed far fewer with the sleeve than with the band. YOU do not make up stats, a group of people make up stats. So my dear, it is you that is wrong. I am quite sure about statistics, I"ve posted them time and time again.
I had a band, it almost killed me. I have a right to hate the damn thing. Not sure why you sleeve haters have issues with this.
I have never written that one surgery type is better overall, you are pulling that out your backside and pretending it smells like roses. Truth is, I posts stats, you don't like that? I can't help you out there.
Jeeezus, is it THAT hard for you?
Now, get over yourself and learn what statistics are and how we come up with stats in the real world. You alone do not make the overall statistics.
I want someone to get what they feel comfortable with. you make blanket statements about THE SLEEVE now. I'm sure it was the band before you got sick. If you had revisioned to DS it would be about DS. You're pretty funny though.
Thanks for writing back to me. Obviously you ticked me off, which isn't easy. So go reread my posts to see if I've ever been upset with someone. Nope...JUST YOU or those that think one surgery IS THE BEST FOR EVERYONE!.
I guess we're not a happy family when one is just always right with everything she says.
and when have I EVER downed the sleeve or any other surgery?? HUH? answer me!! you can't! because I'm not a converter like you!

No, I am not wrong. She asked why we chose the band and I responded. You merely have selective reading and didn't like my response. I explained WHY I originally chose the band. How is that wrong? Who are you to tell me my reasons for originally choosing the band? What the heck do you know?
You want so desperately to prove me wrong but all you are doing is a lot of feetie stomping.
I have never claimed the sleeve is best for everyone. You are a liar. Nothing more and nothing less. You show me just ONE post where I claim there is one superior surgery type. I'll wait for your apology for the sheer dishonesty.
Odd thing, you aren't funny at all. Dishonest, but not funny in the least.

I am chosing the band for all of the reasons stated by the others. Most importantly, it best fits my overeating pattern. Secondly, my family was worried about having an elective surgery to rearrange my organs, and I think their peace of mind helps me to stay focused. But I also have a more selfish reason.
I have witnessed some of my coworkers being "harrassed" by folks who don't approve of any type of WLS, and since I don't mind losing slow and steady, I am able to have surgery without the more drastic initial weight loss that come with options like RNY. If I don't tell them, they don't necessarily need to find out. (especially since I've been pre-op dieting for about three months...I plan on just letting everyone think I'm on vacation while I'm recovering).
I know it might seem silly, but I like the idea of having less pressure from the food police and others who sometimes scrutinize my bypass friends. Definately not the only reason I am chosing the band, but it's one I didn't see listed so far.
Nancy
>lowest surgical risk
>I was a volume eater
>the band is adjustable according to my needs
I understand your desire to hear other patients' feelings about this, but Mick's right: the best advice will come from a bariatric surgeon who does several different types of WLS. You probably won't get an unbiased medical opinion from a surgeon *****stricts his/her practice to a certain type of surgery.

I have a very close friend that at 27 years of age almost died from complications with her RNY. She had a leak and ended up on a vent in ICU for 3 weeks and hospitalized for over a month. She is 5 yrs out now and had lost 100% of her excess weight. She also has ulcers, has had 3 transfusions, can barely eat any kind of meat other than ground turkey, dumps frequently with a very small amount of sugar and advised me to go with the band. She said if she had it to do over she would have chosen the band.
I like that it is adjustable but I am a grazer, not a volume eater. Carbs are my trigger and while I CAN eat all the crunchy salty junk food I want I try very hard NOT to. I am very limited on bread, rice, pasta etc which were major trigger foods for me. I'm also not a big meat eater and was very concerned about getting my daily protein in. I still struggle with that now. I also had some vitamin deficiencies for a while so that goes with any WLS. I'm 11.8 lbs from goal. Its been a long road. If I could have a "do over" I would still go with the band. (keep in my I only researched the 2 choices because I wanted to stick with my doc.)
