Fill appointment scheduled, not sure if I need it?
I guess that is my question. While a cup of water equals 8 ozs, does a cup of food equal 8 ozs? I think the answer is no, becuase a cup of marshmallows certainly don't weigh 8 ounces.
Back to the fill, I'm just not sure if I need one or not? I mean I'm going to go to the appointment and let my doc figure it out for me...but I think I have decent restriction.
Anyway, that's my thought process on the whole thing.
WE all need to assume the responsibility to know when we need a fill, are too tight, etc. And this requires honesty about what we are eating, how well we are exercising, etc. We can all likely talk our docs into more fill when it is not needed, or even dangerous - but this should never be done. WE're never trying to lose as fast as possibly. we're trying to lose slowly and safely, and in a way that will LAST this time, and will not damage oursensitive stomachs or esophagus.
Please see the document that I just re-posted - thanks for the reminder!

8oz of chicken is A LOT of chicken, it's a half pound of dense meat. Most meals I think I am getting maybe 4oz of meat with some veg and some starch (sometimes... none today to far).
How long between meals are you staying full?
If you eat a cup or less of food at a meal and stay full 4+ hours I'd hold off. If you are eating more than a cup in order to stay full, then maybe a little fill? It's def. a talk to have with the doc. My fill history (just had #5) is as follows. I've felt increased restriction EVERY time, no stuck episodes and decent weight loss with no exersize, but I just keep feeling like it can be a little tighter and maybe I can eat a little less.
10cc band
2cc- surgery
1cc- 6 weeks
.75-10 weeks
.75- 14 weeks
.5-18 weeks
.5- 22 weeks
So basically I have 5.5cc in a 10cc band. This week I am hanging around 1/2-3/4 cup of food per meal and staying satisfied. Your doc was already more agressive on fills since I think you had surgery after me, but it's up to you and how you feel. I know the week of fill #4 I felt GREAT restriction and then it loosened some, so that fill + swelling felt ideal. So this week fill #5, she tried to get me back there.
Nobody can tell you if you need a fill but you and your doctor. Mine asks me a few questions:
- Do you feel hungry between your scheduled meals?
- Are you losing weight eating healthy meals & exercising regularly?
- Can you eat more than a bandster portion?
There is no relation to weight of food and volume. The most important measurements is volume. A bandster portion is approx a cup of food (Individual mileage may vary). My nut says we need 6oz of lean meat based protein per day. That equates to 3oz at lunch and 3oz at dinner for me. Athletes eat 8oz a day. If you are eating 8oz of chicken in one meal, that is probably more than you need. My recommendation is 3-4oz of chicken and 1/2 cup of veggies.
If you look at www.nutritiondata.com, for chicken breast, they show a cup of chicken breast (roasted), http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/poultry-products/703/2 - 231 in a cup. Change the serving size from cup to 1 ounce and the calories are 46. That's 368 in 8oz.
Keep up the great work. Congratulations on your weight loss to date!
