Ketosis?

I think I am suffering from ketosis, is this normal?  Black tongue, furry mouth, bad taste in mouth.  Anyone know anything about this?

Have you called your surgeon's office?  The black tongue would have been enough for me.  Good luck. 

Black tongue is not normal, please contact your surgeon.

Bad taste = ketosis or just post-anesthesia taste.

I have a bit of a bad taste too but I assume it is from drinking protien. I think i'm going to start brushing my teeth a lot more in the day!

My daughters friend had black tongue from using too much mouthwash. Not sure about the bad taste in your mouth though...

When you lose weight, your body goes into ketosis.  It can give you a chemically taste in your mouth & bad breath.  Just brush your teeth more & keep sugar free gum around.  But as far as a black tongue, I'd check with the dr, I've never had that.

I called the DR, they are a bunch of dumb asses (pardon my french).  I read online that because I am not eating, I am not getting enough saliva in my mouth to killl the creepy bacteria bugs on my tongue, so they are there longer, hence the black tongue.  I have been brushing regularly, no mouthwash and scrubbing my tongue.  It is just weird.  But overnight I lost 1.5 lbs! So now I am down a total of 18 lbs since the 9th!  My nurse insists that I am not losing any weight due to the lapband because it hasn't been filled.  She is just stupid.  I can feel restriction, even if it is because I am swollen still.  If I hadn't had the operation, I WOULD BE EATING FOOD!!!  Oh well, hopefully this is just a phase and I will drop a ton of weight.

Dehydration can also cause a black, furry tongue.

I think the black furry tongue may be some type of fungal infection...like thrush.  Have you been on antibiotics?

Atkins talked alot about ketosis (yep tried that diet too). From what I remember it was smelly breath, and yellow smelly urine. It had a distinct odor.  Oh yea and it doesn't just happen because you loose weight. It is because of how you're eating. Hence the no sugar or carbs.
