Jeanie - thank you for asking that question.  I almost posted the same question yesterday.  I don't know what a 'slider food' is either.  Is it a good thing or a bad thing?  Maybe someone will tell us.  Thanks again.  Marlene

Qs about WLS are rarely simple! Slider foods vary from person to person! Basically, they are any foods which slide through the band and so don't allow our bodies to get that feeling of being full. So we can eat too much.

Simple? Well no! Dense meats aren't slider foods for anyone! But other things vary. For example, for me, an instant oatmeal (the sort from a prepared packet) that you bung in the microwave for just a couple of minutes and is very smooth) would be a slider food. But "real" oatmeal made from rolled oats is not. For me, bizarrely, thick yoghurt is not a slider food, but it is for many. Neither are raw almonds, but, again, for many people they are!

Somethings are obvious! Like smooth, slippery, creamy desserts! Others, well you just ahve to work out your own!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Slider foods are EVIL!  A slider is something that goes right down without staying in your pouch.  Like mashed potatos are a slider where a bite of steak will sit in your pouch and give you the full sensation.  If it bypasses your pouch you will still be hungry.  Eat your protein-dense (heavy) foods-first, Then you wont want the slider foods because they genreally do not have good nutritional value.

Hope that helps

I think Jean M. has a list of band rules on her blog.

Slider foods can be healthy and good for you.  It's just important to not eat them all the time and come to depend on them rather than dense proteins.
I eat Steelcut oatmeal from Trader Joes everyday and it's very filling.  The instant stuff in the package goes right through my band and I'm hungry again in an hour!
Sometimes I add things to my oatmeal like pecans or frozen berries and that helps too.
I eat a lot of cottage cheese which can be a slider but I always add either tuna or chicken salad or fruit.
Even re-fried beans can be a slider for some.  I add diced chicken to mine so they stay with me.

I have a list of what I eat on my blog.  Check it out if it will help you!

Chips are slider foods for me.  Crackers, popcorn, etc.

Yogurt, cottage cheese etc., are also considered slider foods but they are good options.

Basically, avoid bad carbs.

Oatmeal any kind is not a slider food for me.. it's a food that gets stuck so I have to avoid them for awhile.

Chips is a serious slider food for me.. and crackers...

I have to say that I generally don't worry too much about the slider issue. I track everything, so if I choose to eat something that might go through a little easier it all balanced out at the end of the day for me.
