Elizabeth,
First, the restaurants are under no obligation to honor it.
Second, the children's menu isn't particularly healthy.
Order either a small plate (appetizer, tapas, or side order) or just eat an appropriate amount of what you do order. Get a to-go container and feel free to pack it up BEFORE you eat if it helps.
I often share entrees with my father when we go out and we both either order side salads or a cup of soup if we feel we need a bit more. (My father is not a WLS patient but he's trying to lose a bit of weight and his appetite isn't big either.)

I have used my card a couple times, the one place that didnt want to accept it was Quinceys (steakhouse place here) They have a buffet or you an order steaks. Steaks and I only semi get along so far and when i wanted to use it at first the lady said no then she said I could but couldnt use the buffet could only order one of the childrens meals...none of which would have pleased my dr nor my band... Soo what i did was order the buffet to go... they give you a to go box you fill with what you want then charge you by the pound.... ok I felt a tiny bit odd doing it....but it did work and I was able to eat a small amount and take my food with me.

Good luck with that. Did you already talk to them about the possibility of using the card?
I'm going to a moderately expensive champagne buffet ($25.95) on Sunday myself at Samba in Redondo Beach. But it's a Brazilian barbecue and I plan to eat the expensive cuts of meat that I can digest easily (like filet mignon) to justify the price; there will be 12 - 15 different meat selections along with lots of salads, an omelette bar and desserts. Either that or I am sitting there for four hours for a second meal (JOKING).

I got mine from my surgeon but I have not used it. If you have a look at most kid's menus they are full of unhealthy unband-friendly foods for the most part. I have yet to look at the menu of one and be at all interested in eating what was on offer. I order a full size menu and take it home to eat on it for a few days. I have also shared meals with friends-i take such a small amount off it works great.

I got two one from my surgeon and on in my Allergan Lap-Band information packet . I haven't used because as pointed out they don't have to honor it. I just do what I did before surgery. I order what I want and take most of it home. I always have been a small, slow eater. I just have a problem stopping.
