Dr. Curry,

Okay, now I'm really curious - who did your band surgery??

From your headshot, it didn't look like you needed to lose weight.  Is that why it was just a headshot?

I was suprised it took so long for someone to ask!

Dr. Jaime Ponce from Dalton, Georgia did my band, who in my opinion is one of the best gastric band surgeons in the world.  He and the entire staff at Hamilton Ambulatory Surgery Center took great care of me.

My BMI was 30, I had hypertension, high cholesterol, and pretty bad GERD.  Every year I gained a few more pounds and seemed to come down with another comorbidity and went up on my blood pressure medication dosage.  I was considering having anti-reflux surgery then I thought - why not have a band which will solve more problems than just my reflux?

It's amazing, even though I have done a couple thousand bands, how little I really understood about what it is like to be a band patient until now.  I never thought anything could control my hunger and my obsession with eating.  It's awesome.

This is what I have been thinking about, and just what I need!!!  Looking forward to the 31st!!

I'm really glad for you Dr. Curry.  Congratulations.

I am waiting for this to be my testimony.  I'm 18 months out and weigh 20 pounds less than when I had my surgery.  It's hard for me to still believe in the band.

Dr. Curry,

I went for my second fill today and when the PA drew out the saline she said it had some blood in it, so she wanted to flu**** which she did.  She asked Dr. Boorse to come in and check as well.  Neither of them seemed concerned, but I'm puzzled.  Where might the blood have come from?  Should I be more concerned?

I've seen this before many times.  I'm not sure what the cause of it is, but I never worry about it too much unless something doesn't seem right with the band.

Dr. Curry,
I seem to be having less restriction about every 10 lbs.  Is this normal or ok??
Thanks so much!

This is pretty common, some of the tissue inside the band is fat, and it is shrinking too!

DR. Curry,

I am reaching out for some help. After over two years with the band, I develop a horrible problem with my stomach (thought the band had slipped but it was actually erosion) and had to have emergency surgery in December to remove my band. It was a horrible surgery/recoving but now I am doing great. I have not gained any weight but suffering with some depression. I am very happy that I have not gained any weight, BUT... I never made it to goal, I have 50 lbs to go and just cannot seem to do it or get anywhere close to doing it.

Besides listening to me complain does anyone have any suggestions for me? Is it possible to lose this weight? We all know there is not much faith in will power, which is why I needed/wanted the band, for the extra push.

Tell me I will not be 200 forever. Can I reach my goal? (It is a rhetorical question of course) but would love your input.

Is another type of weight loss surgery possible for me? Have you treated anyone like this?

I wish dieting was easy.

Thanks

Lora

After an erosion, I would probably only consider sleeve or gastric bypass.  Re banding has been done, but the re erosion rate is even higher probably.

Dr. Curry,
What kind of percentages to you see with slip bands in your practice?  Is this a common occurance?  Is a result of not following the rules or it just happens?
Thanks for your time on this board!
