Ask Dr. Curry?
I have a very dear friend who was banded a short time ago. He is an occassional scuba diver and went diving shortly after his first fill. No problems. But when he went back for a second fill he told her he had been scuba diving. She told him she heard of someone whose port burst after scuba diving.
His fill person is a nurse, not a surgeon. His surgeon never warned him against diving. He has 6 cc's in a 10 cc band after 2 fills. He has no restriction. She did NOT remove the first 2.9 cc's before adding the next 3.1 cc's. Now he is thinking that he might have damaged something, has a leak, etc. He has a call in to his surgeon's office.
Have you EVER heard of any band problems caused by diving, or parachuting, for that matter? Both pressure fluctuation issues.

Dr. Curry,
What can you tell me about hiatal hernia's as far as repair ?
It is my understanding that some surgeons will go ahead and repair the hiatal hernia while placing the band.
Is this painful? Will i be able to feel the repair? How long does the pain last?
Thank you
Steph

I have been considering a revision to an AP band--I wonder if there is any benefit to switching out as far as the AP model putting less pressure on my stomach. I have just recovered from having a distended esophogus and I'm leery of filling back up again.
Is the AP model the same as the old Swedish one's that had more problems with slippage?
I was just reading in another post about a woman who has pouch dilation from eating more than 1 1/2 cups food. She apparently had no symptoms other than some sliming, and her MD told her that it happened because she was eating more than 1/2-3/4 cups food. My question is this:
Without proper restriction, it is certainly very easy to eat way more than 1 1/2 cups of food, and I'm afraid that describes me, although I am now eating less than pre band (in the process of reaching sweet spot). If it goes down without difficulty, can you end up hurting yourself with a pouch dilation or something worse?
I go again for another fill on the 26th and didn't worry about this too much until I read this post...now I'm worried!
Help!

I was banded a few years ago and had great success, I loved my band. Unfortunately it slipped and I had to have it removed. I have put on weight since then and i would like to have it put back in. Shortly after my band slipped i had to go for an upper Gi endoscopy. It showed " a normal oesophogus with a hiatus hernia, a normal stomach with mild duodeitis and helicobacter pylori infection". I went on a very strong course of medication as well as anti biotics. That was about a year ago. With this as part of my history, would I be able to be rebanded?
Thanks for your help!
